The fabled Seventh Sense
I just wondered whether any of you believed in the so called seventh sense. You know that feeling you get when you know someone is watching you and the one that you can tell when someones lying by their voice or face. Ive put up a poll but any opinions on the subject are welcomed.

OK I thought Id better actually post my comments and reasoning behind my choice. I agree with the whole thing becasue twice this week the staring sense happened - once on wedensday in a cafe and the other on friday at the supermarket. In fact I would go so far as to say that the seventh sense was a sense that was previously unknown in humans but noticed in dogs until around this age. Dogs have a high seventh sense by the way that they always seem to know if something is out of the ordinary and I have heard many past experiences of dogs acting strangely when a human or friends felt a "presence" in the room as my dogs reacted like that last night (check the supernatural thread for more details). But I do not think that it doesnt exist because why would we get that prickling on the backs of our necks if we know were being followed or stared at and we trun around and we were right.

On the other subject...are you sur eyou don't mean the sixth sense? Or are you referring to something broader known as the seventh sense I haven't heard much about? I think you may mean to say the sixth sense. And finally, yes actually it happens all the time that I can tell when certain people are lying...simply because they are not very good at it _RED_ stuff

Hmm, it depends on two factors to trigger this 'Seventh Sense.'
1. Level of trust in the person you're speaking to. 2. Common Sense. Period. For seemingly sensing people from behind. 1. Level of fear mostly. Last edited by Nelo Angelo; Jun 8th, 2003 at 05:17 AM.. |

I can almost always tell when someone is staring at me. I'll just look in a general direction (I have no idea why) and sure enough, someone is looking right at me.
I can also catch most people that are trying to sneak up on me (again, I don't know exactly how). As someone approaches me from my blindside, I'll get a chill. As for knowing someone is lying, I just have to be very perceptive and use common sense.

No Red, I do mean "The Seventh Sense", The Sixth sense is:
A - A Film B - When you see dead people. But, seriously, it is called the Seventh Sense. I dont know why but it just is. Preety silly really considering that most normal people would at first dub it the sixth but oh well, thats life. One complicated tangle of words.

To an extent, but for it to actually be called a 7th sense technically wouldn't someone have to have a 6th sense for something else first? That's just what I think anyway.

OK let me just explain properley.
The sixth sense is a sense that only "gifted" people have. Such as psychics and mind readers/fortune tellers. Other people do not have this sense. It is also rumoured that the sixth sense is associated with the paranormal/supernatural. Whereas the Seventh Sense is a sense that most people have. It can take maybe one or two things to trigger it such as if someone was staring straight at you you would just know and thus turn around to found out. This sense has also been associated with knowing whether someone is lying or not.

Uh.. *counts.. touches nose, ears, mouth, fingers, and pokes his eye* ..oww.. *..counts again* Wouldn't that be SIXTH sense? "Knowing somebody is watching you" entails the same kind of extrasensory awareness or more acute senses of being 'psychic', so it would be more sixth sense.
As for believing in it.. ..no. Not really. Telepathy or telekenesis would require transferrence of some kind of energy through an at least as-yet-discovered medium.. I suppose it could exist, but science hasn't even hinted at it, really. As for what you're talking about.. that's more of a combination of all the other senses than a 'seventh' sense.

BlackThorn, Science did not ever prove everything. We knew we had eyes becasue we could see, we didnt need science for that. But the seventh sense is a sense, a sense of awareness if you like - I didnt see that sense lusted in your post wheras the sixth sense could be labeled the psychic sense becasue most people with the sixth sense are psychic. Read my previous post for more details but your view is too varied - you should try and get the details straight first. By the way im not trying to insult you via saying this im just asking you to think a bit more.

I believe that it exists, without a doubt. I don't have any geeat reasoning which differs from what others have said, but either way, i still added my two cents worth anyhow.
