Sennen Joyu (Millennium Actress)
The US might bring this new anime movie over from Japan and if they do, I hope everyone checks it out because this movie is stunning and fantastic.
Japanese title: Sennen Joyu or Millennium Actress, it's by the same team and director that created Perfect Blue. This movie is basically about the hidden or "locked away" (more understandable once you see the film) memories of Chiyoko, the world famous actress who starred in the old films...7 consecutive movies, to be exact, all which have a different era. The movie starts off with the the chairman (I believe) of the studio which created all of Chiyoko's movies. The studio is being torn down and he and his partner decides to visit the aged Chiyoko to make a documentary on her life and films. Along with the chairman, he brought a key. As the story unfolds, we find out that the key holds a special meaning to her past because this key belonged to someone important. The movie takes us into her past and we see her memories...and added touch of brilliance is including the chairman and his partner in the memories as well. We, the viewers, are watching what's happening along with the 2 men. We also get to see Chiyoko as her 7 movie characters; she is nicknamed as "Millennium Actress" and "7 Faces of Chiyoko" because of them. Her onscreen situations are exactly the same as her real life, so she is able to become a great actress because she reflects her emotions on her real situations to the screen. I won't give anything away because I don't want to spoil this beautiful movie, but I highly recommend this to everyone. It's the complete opposite of Perfect Blue which was dark, mysterious, and uneasy...Millennium Actress is beautiful, sweet, and sad...there are bits of humor here and there, but overall, the tone is dramatic especially the end. I'm not sure if the main character is based on a real actress, but they did a great job capturing the emotions and hardships of Chiyoko. For those who are unable to get this film from Japan, I would keep a lookout for any news on this movie coming to the US.

I hope they buy the movie! At the moment I'm unable to get stuff from Japan, I'm sure I'll have more chances in the next future... BTW, thanks for the news meryl! I really do hope to watch this anime ASAP!
