Obsessed with Games?

Ooh, I hope my title didn't confuse anyone...

Anyway, I just wanted to ask everyone what game(s) they've played that they became so totally obsessed with. As in, what games made you so obsessed/addicted that when you take a break and go outside for a walk, for example, you thought you saw one of the characters hiding in the bushes () or something. Hehe, I hope at least someone experienced moments like these.

If you're still confused, here's my example:

Back in 1999/2000 when the Sega Dreamcast came out, I bought the game "Shenmue." I was so addicted/obsessed with this game that it literally had an effect on my mentality.

Close to the end of the game, Ryo has to take a bus and travel to the docks for his job. Now, since the game is so realistic, there were actual bus schedules to go by. If you missed the bus, you would have to wait for it to come around again (which took about a few hours in the game).

Well, the one time that the game really took a toll on me was when I was in high school. I was in Biology class and we were having a study hall/free time thing where everyone could either goof off or do work. I was sitting there, just doing some homework, feeling tired, when I looked up at the time and saw it was almost 11 AM (in the game, this was a time where the bus comes by). Seeing the time, I nearly had a heart attack - I was gonna miss the bus!!! I (seriously) nearly leaped outta my seat, ready to grab my bag, and run out the door! But then, I realized what just happened and I just sat there, laughing my ass off and feeling sheepish.

The same thing happened to my sister ('cause she was watching me play the whole game). She was at work and just waiting to take a customer's order, when she looked out the window and saw a bus drive by. She told me she freaked out and nearly ran out the door to run after the bus. Again, she realized what happened and she also laughed her ass off and felt so stupid.

Okay, so that's just one example from me. Now you guys.

Mine would have to be Return to castle wolfenstien online, I think I wasted a whole year on it, it was like drugs so addictive and I needed it every night I just got rid of it in the end to stop playing it all the time, it was come home, play to sleep thing, I don’t really get addicted to games, I play them non stop until I complete them or just go of them, or can come back to them.

About that bus you thought you had missed that really is a game taking over you, I've had a few day dreams like that, someone mentions a word/sentence similar to the game your addicted to you instantly think about the game, its really mad.

A few obsessions:
Sonic the Hedgehog 2: I played this game, pratically everyday for about 3 years, though I'd often also go through the whole "story" (Play the first, then the second etc). Probably my earliest obsession, I liked this game just that bit more than the rest.
System Shock 2: I've played it at least once or two times every year since I got it for Christmas in 1999.
Half-Life 1: Similar to the above, except I got it in September for the same year and have played each the Opposing Force expansion pack for the same ammount each year. Oh, and multiplayer, especially in the form of the Science & Industry mod means that I clock up a remarkable ammount of hours each year on a game that is 6 years old... until tommorow perhaps ^^
Homeworld: The whole "I still play it a couple of times through every year" thing.
Deus Ex: The only game I ever got a strategy guide for (and I got it AFTER I completed the game!). Played the demo about 10 times through before buying the game on release day, finding all the different ways to complete the mission.

I've had some serious obsession with fighting games, I played street fighter 2 so much that I decided to take up Tae Kwon-Do lessons to be able to kick persons irl
And still whenever I play fighters or watch Kung-Fu movies I feel the urge coming up to fight But I got way more self-control now than 15 years ago...thank god! Nowadays I only attack my girlfriend from time to time after watching a Kung Fu flick

Well, i cant think a game in which i became obsessed with...much...but i did enjoy playing during some months the following games:

1- Final Fantasy 8: Probably the most addicting game i ever played. i spent more than 5 hours a day, everyday during like 4 or 5 months straight. And after i finished te game, i had that kind of feeling of sadness...u all probably know it "Damn :'( i just wished the game as even longer so i could play it some more".

2- Nightlong: P&C game A very good game, 3 cds i bought it in second hand, lol but still, a very good choice indeed try to search for its info ppl if u like p&c, ull love it for sure

3- Sanatorium: another p&c game. also with 3 cds, very confusing, creepy, futuristic and addicting!!! i finished it maybe..huh....4 times

And thats all for now...heh

For me, the most addicting game that I played would have to be Pokemon. I just couldn't put that thing down for anything. When I first got it, I played it for about 6 hours in school and school is only 7 hours long. It was great. Pokemon is great. Also, everytime a new Final Fantasy comes out, I just can't put it down until I beat it. It is pratically the only thing I do play when I get a new game.

I haven't played the game in a while, but the only game I've been addicted to was Final Fantasy 8. Now I haven't actually been addicted to the point to where I'd go outside and try to summonn GF's (that'd be a site to see) or try to do magic or w/e. The addiction I'm talkin about was staying up for almost 36 hours of playing the game.

Actually now that I think about it, Ninja Gaiden was pretty addicting to me as well. 18 hours of gameplay.... "shrugs"

I think that by far the most engrossing game I ever engaged in was Final Fantasy X. It was during my sophomore year in the winter, when I wrestle. Wrestling is grueling and tough...the season really wears on you. During practice all I would think about would be getting home and playing some more of this great game. I was just so tied up in the world and the characters, especially since it was my first Final Fantasy game. I can't get the same feeling of satisfaction out of too many games nowadays...it was just perfect for the long and brutal winter.

That said, I had one hell of a time with FF8 as well: I was a sucker for the Squall-Rinoa romance, even though I wasn't that big a fan of Squall. It was good to see a more typical Final Fantasy game in action. Some of the cutscenes from that game were just awesome: the escape from Dollet, the space scenes, the intro, the ending, and of course the dancing FMV.

Metal Gear Solid and MGS2 got plenty of my time, especially when I played MGS2 on extreme and it took me quite some time. Rollercoaster Tycoon was excellent for the PC and I played that for hours on end.

To this day though, FFX has been the most fulfilling experience for me and my true "obsession" game, though like Ryu said (kudos to him) I wasn't out summoning Aeons or playing blitzball.
