The top ten reasons you like videogames? If you prefer, let say ten reasons you could use to convince somebody to play videogames. You can be original

my reason

1: REALITY SUXS!!!!

thats pretty much all i have not very good at convincing people now the reasons i play is because i love being able to do something i can't do in the normal world i love a game i can submerse myself in a game that litterally takes to my emotions that plays out like a good song flows but yet at the same times challenges me and my ability as a gamer. I started playing because at the time video games were populated by males and those females who played played rather feminine games. So i sat down and watched my brother play mario one day and i said hey i like this and so i played and continued to play based on what i seen and what i liked even if it was considered a boyz game and i have had my share of sexiest remarks and so forth ,but video games have been a big part of my spare time don't get me wrong i went out and did normal things but at the end of the day its always me and a good game. I can't convince someone to play because to truely be a gamer you have to embrace it on your own you have to want to play ok i think i did enough rambling

1. Video games expose people to new ideas: just like movies, there are innovative video games that introduce themes and ideas people are unfamiliar with and there are junky violent ones that add little to the culture or the gamer's perspective.
2. Video games give people the chance to imagine: people can be anything they want through video games...people crave adventure and action and can rarely get it in real life. It is cool to imagine what you could or even what you couldn't be and play as it.
3. Video games are a break in life: they are simply another avenue of satisfaction to endulge in in a fast-pcaed world, though too many of them can be a distraction and end up being detrimental. I'll agree to that statement my parents often make.
4. Video games require critical thinking: sure, they are not novels or psychological studies but the puzzles required and the logic found in many games teaches a gamer to develop skills that allow for faster and more insightful thought.
5. Video games offer thrills at no cost to society: on consoles and PCs, gamers can take over the world, build their own city, run down pedestrians, and skate on a fiery board through Boston...let's hope that these behaviors don't start appearing in the real world! Video games feed people who like to break the rules and be someone else the oppourtunity they need to do this in a light-hearted and fulfilling way. Some people may disagree and say that the large violence is caused by video games, but I would argue otherwise: books have long been violent or racy and we don't blame them? Anyhow, I believe the environment and values a child is taught has a larger role. No one I know who plays GTA has suddenly become more understanding of hit and run drivers or gang fights.
6. Video games are fun: now I'm not the type of person to say "if it's fun, do it" because there are always consequences for an action and they can be bad. But, having stated that the bad effects from video games are from overplaying them not from being influenced by them, I'll say here that it's not bad at all to indulge in video games. There is no reason not to enjoy yourself with some digital mayhem or world-saving, and it is a great way to pass the time, especially with friends.
7. Video games bring people together: it's like any other activity or cause. Video games provide people with things to talk about and a way for people to meet. They are meant to be played in groups and lead to friendships and discussion just like a movie or novel.
8. Video games are a steady source of economic growth and employment: from a business standpoint, they are a solid investment. Video games are constantly evolving, and the jobs that go with it continue to change and multiply as well. THis allows for programming talent to be used and artistic liscense to thrive in a market system. Now, video games are more products that capitalize off another cultural phenomenon like a hit movie.
9. Video games lead to developments in technology: the intense graphics available in video game engines can find their way into vocations and markets where they are needed for far more important matters like military simulations and graphics for other pursuits.
10. Video games give people dreams: in a world where so many people are pessimistic and bleak, video games can inspire new ideas and give people visions of what they want to be or do.

Of course, all these thigns are a stretch...10 is a lot and some reaching admittedly. Plus, there are arguments against each one, but this at least is a start. You like?

1. Escapism. Pure and simple "Reality is heavy going, I want to be someone else". People get it to a lesser degree from TV or Film but interactivity takes you one step further, particuarlly first person games. Only Books can match that, and for some people books aren't as accessable. In fact, Escapsim is itself a bunch of positives: You can be who you want to be, where you want to be, when you want to be etc.
2. Games are Art Well good games are at least. The complexity of 3D level design is nearing the point where developers are genuninely going to have to start employing professional architects. Character, Level and Misc design equals anything seen in Costume, Set or Other design departments in Film. Plus, because of the open nature of the Internet as a distribution model, Games are a huge melting pot of creative energy.
3. Challenge There's nothing quite like the feeling you get when you complete your first game. many games down the road, a good game will still give you a sense of fulfillment, that you've achieved something to be seeing the names of all those creative folks roll down the screen.
4. Competition Similarly, Nothing beats beating other people. Sure you have to play online for this, but seeing yourself at the top of the leader board with more frags than everyone else is a great feeling.
5. Co-Operation Just as important as Competition, is Co-operation. Be it a two player split screen triumph over the covenant, or a team of 16 people beating the other at Onslaught, feeling that as a team you've achieved something is a great thing.
6. Community Games News, Reviews and actually the act of playing games encourage a great deal of communication and socialisation. No it's not quite the same as going out in RL with your friends, but it's not to be scoffed at.
7. Feeling Skillful Roughly translates as being able to jump from a high ledge, do a 180 degree turn and plant a bullet between someones eyes at long distance in one movement. Sometimes, you even amaze yourself

Well lets see.....My #1 reason, I guess that I just plain love video games, to get away from things in my own life. 2, They help me develope my own ideas for my art work. 3, like Aubrey said its a good way to socialize, I get to talk with a lot of interesting ppl and gain new friends. 4, It gives me something interesting to talk about(since I have no "real" life). 5, I can be someone else for awhile, even if they aren't real.
