Juon/The Grudge
I was just wondering if anyone is going to see "The Grudge" (or the Japanese title Juon). I wonder if this remake is good...obviously, it's kinda similar to Ringu/The Ring except involving a house. I haven't seen the original, but some info for anyone interested:
- There was a TV series back in 2000, I think. - There is also a sequel to Juon featuring the same actress from the first film (just like Ringu...surprise, surprise )- The original Japanese director is directing the remake, I think...so it may or may not be good. I wonder if the little boy is the same from the original...they sure look alike.

i remember talking to mena about Juon awhile back. The original still looks alot better i think. I use to have a link to the trailer somewhere..great halloween type movie.
For anyone who hasn't seen the trailer for the original check it out, it's worth the time. The part where she looks under he blankets is classic horror movie stuff.

I saw the original Japanese version about a week or so ago. Eesh... just thinking about it makes me cringe: that movie was such a hassle to get. *shakes head*
As for the movie itself, I thought it was okay. There are quite a few similarities/parrallels to Ringu, but all in all I thought Ringu was the better of the two. Maybe this is cause in Ringu things were better explained - the story flowed better, and in this one, well... since the movie is divided into "mini stories," it's harder to keep track of who is who and what is what. Plus it just seemed a little underdeveloped to me... kinda confusing, I guess. Also, while Ringu did make me jump quite a few times, this one really didn't. It's not a bad movie, but it isn't a very good one either. I hope to see The Grudge when it comes out... or did it already come out? I don't even know. I'm not sure but for some reason, the American version seems like it'll be spookier. Maybe it's the whole Buffy thing... :oOh, I forgot to add: Yeah, there is a movie TV version to Juon. Supposedly the movie aired on television was more frightening than the one released on... film ( ). Haven't seen that, though, but maybe I'll look for it when I get a chance.

I'm really looking foward to this movie...
( BTW, it's coming out on October 22nd Mena ^_^ ) It's so hard nowadays to find really spooky horror films... It's like they're not even trying anymore, which is a shame. Ah, the good ol' days! |

I've only watched the original Japanese Ju-On & Ju-On 2, but I frankly found them excessively trashy, badly directed and poorly acted. Horrors, as kupo said in another thread, are maybe too trashy in general to be my genre. I find them excellent to pass a couple of hours wanting to watch something but not wanting to be too much involved. I'll give the remake of Ju-On a try when it's realeased in my country (I don't think I'll waste money to import it
).
