1.Max Payne - I believe his story is much better than Jack's and as a character he is much more indepth
2.Can't really say, I would say Vercetti but I haven't played Mafia so I can't make the comparison
3.Master Chief - He has a character, he speaks has one hell of a back story. Gordon is pretty much who you play as and everyone talks to you. No real story to him.
4.Snake - Hands down the winner.
5.007 - This is bond man, the super secret british agent.
6.Can't say your comparing a vampire to big breasted women who runs around in tombs. Lara I would say has more of a personality while the vampire chick just goes around and kills shit.

The winners are:
Max Payne, Tommy Verceti, Gordon Freeman, Solid Snake, 007 and Lara Croft. Max, Verceti, 007 and Lara cheat because i've no idea who the other person is.

Gordon is cooler than the Chief because... he isn't. The Chief is pratically the same guy who appeared in: Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Quake and all the other "Square Jawed boring Marine guy kills people in FPS environment" games. Its the form of "cool" thats been done so many times that its no longer "cool". Freeman wins because he's different. Ginger Goatee, Jam Jar Glasses and all.

Snake has a far more interesting past that Sam, who's just generic Tom Clancy "ex special service" guy or whatever. Plus, he's simply the original and best.

I really suggest you read the Halo books and such. Infact I could of heard you say before in the other consoles forum that you haven't even played Halo. Trust me as a character overall Master Chief wins. Genetically enhanced super solider, with extremely high IQ. Trained for war since he was 6. Gordon is a scientist put into unusual situations and somehow makes it out alive. Plus he doesn't even have any dialog. How can you compare a character that doesn't have a real story.

I most definitly agree with sssnake Master Chief is way more cooler if you read the books from what i have heard he goes threw hell and back to turn out to be one of the most amazing soldiers to ever live. No offense to gordon but he is just funny in my eyes. If you pinned them up in a match Master Chief would dominate the match and destroy gordon.

you can know the basics of the backstory without playing the game and Certainly without reading the books (Thats just cheating!). You've filled in a few gaps in my knowledge there, but my original point stands.

Its all a bit cliche really. "Genetically Enhanced". Who isn't these days? (Warren Spector owns the T-Shirt) Trained for war since he was 6: Heard that one too. The overall impression I've got is that he's just fortunate to have plenty of backstory. That Gordon isn't a DNA boosted war bred soldier is what makes him interesting. He's different, but he owes his abilites to no one else. Cept the HEV suit... but MC cheats there as well right?

As for how I can compare the two characters, who knows. I kind of thought that was the question asked?

1. Jack Slate ~ he looks cooler than Max and Dead To Rights is way under-rated. He can fist fight, blow gas cans out of the air and sick his dog on foes. Max can't do any of that.
2. Tommy Vercetti ~ I would have gone with Tommy A., but you can't beat having Ray Liotta do the voice.
3. Master Chief ~ much more mysterious than Gordon
4. Sam Fisher ~ not cheesy like Snake
5. 007 ~ sorry, but Bond will always be cool
6. BloodRayne ~ Lara's still hot, but her games have become tiresome.
