I usually like movies. There are movies that everybody watch and that are top at the box office. There are movies that is like... obvious everybody has seen. But honestly it's not so obvious sometimes!
So people, which are the movies that everybody seems to have seen while you haven't? Which are these blockbusters you still have to watch? For me, one of the most recents is "The Passion". Jeez... it looks like the whole world knows this movie, but I don't. I'm not even sure it sounds appealing to me and I don't know if I'll watch it. Your turn now! |

If mel gibson is such a great catholic how come we haven't seen the funds from the movie toward a charity of some kind. I can say this becaus ei too am a catholic, but i can see how tempting it is to want to keep that kind of money. I saw it myself and thought it was worth watching but if your gunna make a movie above Jesus Christ our Lord why don't you do as the old woman did in the bible and give all her possesions to someone who needed them more even though she had so little herself whereas the greedy rich man only gave some pennies. Some times the smallest donations can mean the world.

*gasp!* You haven't seen the Star Wars movies, merly?!! :o Omigod..!! *cough*meneither*cough* I erm, haven't seen those either. Another "renowned" flick I haven't seen is Kill Bill Vol. 2. I saw the first one, like, maybe a week ago. But that's all the not Bill Killing I've seen. Also, uhm... well, even though that by admiting this I will be ridiculed for the rest of my life, I'll give it a go: I have never seen... Pearl Harbor. Shame on me. I know. |

On the subject of the Passion (I've not seen it, nor will I ever see it as it has all the markings of fundamentalist propaganda), any film where the guy playing Jesus is struck by lightning not once, but twice, during shooting is a sign that someone isn't happy with the production.

I HAVE seen Passion of the Christ and i thought it was excellent because it looks at the bible in a different point of view and shows what more than likely happened and i think was done excellently, was skeptic at first but i thought it was amazing.
O and it really bothers me how many people say their are religious etc yet they only choose to read what they want and do what they want and not look at the whole thing look around at all the hipocracy (sp?) and how people act as though they are perfect i believe in God etc but i know that i break commandments and things i should because im not Jesus and am not perfect.

People choose not to see the film because essentially it is not not not a product of a spiritual heart but is instead a somewhat anti-semetic money making scheme. Reviving a medieval practise of attempting to shock an audience via embedded guilt-mongering techniques is really not the best way to reach the people. It certainly worked amongst some people but it really isn't fair to have a go at people who have chosen not to see it. It is brutal propaganda and really doesn't deserve a place amongst modern cinema or even modern society.
The hypocrisy surrounding the situation is that it preaches spiritual hatred and retribution through pain, which is only a message fundamentalist groups interpret within spiritual materials. Quote:
Which apparently great movies have I never seen? Quite a few. Raging Bull, Apocalypse Now (although familiar with the content, I've never had time to watch the film in its entirity), A Clockwork Orange. Also, like Rei, I have never seen Mission Impossible, The Green Mile and Saturday Night Fever. But those are out of choice. Ahahaha.

me neither, those types of movies just don't interest me at all. Another one that I haven't seen that was really popular is that Jackass movie, I don't feel like watching a bunch of attention whores hurt themselves for an 1 1/2 hours.

After a notice I received, I have noticed a problem with this thread.
The Passion of the Christ issue here can be made into a separate thread. This is getting off the original topic made by Meiko. Please get back on the original topic. |
