I have new options.
Tim Curry would be quite perfect physically... just look at him in the Rocky Horror or in IT! I think even Tim Burton wanted him as the Joker at the beginning, but then picked Jack! But maybe they need a younger actor for the Joker now... What about Steve Buscemi? Last edited by Hylas; Jun 24th, 2005 at 08:19 AM.. |

Among "older" actors and bigger names:
John Malkovich - He can play the psycho! He has that kind of pure evil expression, plus he's a good actor, I think he could pull it off. Tim Roth - An actor who's very much the type of guy you can hate. In many movies he played the evil or twisted character. I can perfectly see him as the new Joker. Willem Dafoe - This man is just plain creepy and looks pretty much as the sadistic villain that is the Joker. He has the physical attributes and the facial features for it. Among the younger and less famous: James Franco - In Spiderman till now he hasn't done much, but I feel if given the opportunity he could show the guts and the strenght for a real villain. Daniel Craig - In Road to Perdition he was great as the vicious son, he's got the evil expression and twisted look. Hayden Christensen - He demonstrated he can play the wicked guy in SW. He's tall and strong enough for action scenes, so he looks ok to me to confront Bale's Batman. Last edited by Meiko; Jun 24th, 2005 at 11:05 AM.. |

I always thought Buscemi could play Carnage if Spiderman decided to go the Venom/Carnage route
cant really see him as Joker though, Buscemi is crazy lookin and can act but I dunno if he can be over the top the way Joker is supposed to be. Buscemi has that hidden psycho look to him and Hayden Christensen? god I hope not |

Is Bettany a sort of albino? Are they trying to keep the make-up expenses down? Sorry couldn't resist...
I can see why they are trying to cast a less famous actor, but keeping the big names only for cameos or minor roles (Alfred, Fox, Gordon etc) seems odd as a choice. I don't know if the Joker's gonna be the main villain of the second movie, if not I wonder if they're making of him a copy of Scarecrow, speaking of plot importance. Liam Neeson was a rather big name for the main villain of the first movie, but all attention was on Bale anyway, I wonder if completely changing ways to cast a less important actor they are trying to avoid the Joker to steal the show. |

good point
keaton was over shadowed by Joker in the first batman, alot more background on him instead of the hero himself....it wasnt a bad thing, I might add. Joker is too important a villian though to be casted the way Scarecrow was...........a simple henchman role or even 20 minutes of actual movie time? no way I was pissed when they did that to Bane in the previous batman before this (with freeze and poison ivy). Such a small part in the movie that most people didnt even know there were 3 comic book villians in that movie. To degrade a guy who broke Batmans back like a soggy pretzel stick and force a mini-retirement is blasphemy |

James Franco, Daniel Craig and Hayden Christensen aren't good for the part imo. Paul Bettany could look like the Joker with the right adjustments, but is he good enough actor for the role? Tim Curry would be ok, but he's definitely too old (he's nearly 60! Shouldn't the Joker be about the same age as Batman? You can make an actor look younger, but a 30 years gap is too much!). The don't have to try to make of the new Joker a copy of the one of the first movie, but he should be a strong enough presence. Ra's Al Ghul hasn't a big presence in the comics as well, but the Joker? He's Batman's nemesis, I expect him to be big!
I agree that using Bane the way they did was a mistake. I was expecting more of him in the movie at that time, it was disappointing. Thanks god it's not in the staff plans to have Robin in the new series of movies. That would be lame (sorry fans, I've always thought Robin is lame).

You know going after the comic book idea is great and all, but to me it feels like a slap in the face to keaton who basically brought batman to life. I understand movies are remade all the time these days (dont get me started on that) and in fact these movies are under a different story line all together, but I just cant get passed the idea that these movies are going to stomp all over the batman i know and love from the movies with keaton, cluney, kilmer. I know it probably seems dumb to you, especially those in love with the comic, but to me it just feels like they are saying, screw you keaton and nicolous and your amazing movie from yesteryear.
But thats just me.

I agree and disagree... i completely agree with the keaton/0riginal factor... i dont know about 're'doing' them or something like that... sure its probably gonna go that way... same as with superman.. or is that already happening.. i dont know... the only reason i disagre... is cause i really wanna goto the movies and make it worth while instead of going to see shitty movies. Hollywoods answer... why come up with something original when we can just copy/paste/edit and make money... i'm ranting about nothing... i might post more.. or at least re read what i've written.. and actually see what i was trying to say..a s for now.. i'm sorry for my incoherant.... sleeplessness.

I understand jjmoo too
but basically thats a good thing. Not really saying FU to the previous film at all. If it were saying that, then it would be a remake of it, but year one happens before the keaton era so theres no disprespect. I wouldve been pissed if they tried something like that. And even though its before, its on another timeline with things happening differently. if your upset blame those horrible sequals that killed the franchise for sometime. They made people need to remake it in order for it to be watchable. Superman is supposed to be after the events of Reeves superman. Doesnt explain why hes younger or whatever but it should be interesting. |

Holy thread necromancy batman!
Thought it would be amusing and interesting to bring this back now, in the cold light of the Dark Knight which was really really good, I thought. Ledger was amazing and only really highlighted how sad his death was. Where does the Batman series go now? I don't think they should actually make another film. How could they ever top that Joker?

Haven't seen the movie yet, but in the parts I've seen...Ledger is an amazing Joker.
I think they will make another movie, Nolan probably want to make it a trilogy.

Probably just like the other Batman movies, the next will have other villains (no doubt two face), so although Heath Ledger is dead, there probably wont be a need for his character anytime in the near future... And you cant help but wonder what Heath's full career could have been had it not been stopped so prematurely, yet that is a question history has always provided...

Yeah these are actually geared more towards the storyline of the animated version, which i think are superior. I loved the first Batman with Keaton, deplored pretty much the second, enjoyed the one with Kilmer and Jim Carrey, then there is always Batman and Robin, which prompted the need for change. Do the spell check thingy Mr. Moo :p we love ya bud! |
