Best Secondary Characters
I know, "best of" or "favourite" threads can be annoying and repetitive. But I don't remember seeing a thread about this before. Please, forgive the dumbness of the question if you can
Ok, anime are great because if you really get into the story and all, you often start to feel affection or affinity with characters. This usually happens for the hero of the anime. Well, if you don't feel affinity it can happen at least you find the main character to be cool or fascinating. That can make you like some anime even if you somewhat dislike the story or other aspects of it. But what about secondary characters? With that I mean characters that are not always on the spot, always present. They can have important roles, they can have some relevance for the story, but they are not directly involved, their screen time is very limited or they often remain on the background. Sometimes they have rather small parts, so small they can be considered more as cameo roles. Sometimes you can like a secondary character so much, you can start to like it even more than the main characters. There is someone who regularly likes secondary characters, also in games, forgetting everything about the rest of the anime. It's a sort of fanboyism I don't get, but I know people who watch anime and movies and play games with this kind of attitude which make them automatically dislike the "mainstream" part of them So, what are the secondary characters you like the most in anime? You can just list them, or explain why you like them. That's it for now... No worries! I will post mine too. |

Kuro-neko sama from Trigun. That black cat is so awesome.
Urahara Kisuke from Bleach. So strong, funny, and just plain great. Thats all I can think of for now.

I really like Zaraki from Bleach, and Gaara from Naruto. Scar from Full Metal Alchemist is cool too. I guess the pattern here are bad-ass killers.. Oh, Snape from Harry Potter is one of my favourite characters too.

Errr.... not entirely sure.
Rock Lee was pretty good. Oh, there we go. My favorite is Neji from Naruto. Was arrogant at 1st, but "shrugs" he changed.

Hmm...
1. Walter C. Dollneaz from Hellsing. I guess he can be considered a secondary character, right? He's a really great character - loyal, wise, mild-mannered...but when he needs to, he can downright destroy you. Wonderful! 2. Norman Burg from The Big O...ah, I'm picking all the butlers/servants. Similar qualities like Walter, he's likable and mysterious...I've often wondered how he got his eye patch. 3. Saki, Hanajima from Fruits Basket. I just like her personality overall...very dark, very mysterious, but a wonderful person once you get to know her. She's also very pretty. 4. Urahara, Kisuke from Bleach. Even though his personality is so typical, I still like it. He comes off as the goofy store manager, but you know he's got skills. I prefer him much more over Ichigo (the main character) only because Kisuke is older, wiser, and rational...while Ichigo can be a cocky little runt. 5. Seta, Soujiro from Rurouni Kenshin. He is still one of my lasting favorites out of the many, many characters of this series. Soujiro's character is a simple, yet complex one and I loved his lack of emotions before he "broke." I guess that's it for now.

Rem Savarem - Trigun
She's too good to be true. One of the few 100% positive anime characters I don't find annoying or dumb. I would have liked to pick Legato too... but he's not exactly "secondary" Eiri Masami - Serial Experiments Lain I'm not sure he's a strictly "secondary" character. Lain is like that, you can never be sure what you're talking about. This character is creepy, but very fascinating. Panurus - Boogiepop Phantom "All" of them. They share same weird philosophy about life. Which is kinda ironic, knowing what happens to both characters... The macabre irony of their case is irresistible. Bunji Kugashira - Gungrave Oh man, he reminds me too much of Kitano/Miike yakuza characters... Straight Cougar - Scryed He's the wild card of the series. Plus, he's a funny, genuinely cool and refreshing character. I could watch him appear and disappear all the time without being bored, even when all those fighting scenes in the series started to be annoying. The way he talks is great! Ryoji Kaji - Neon Genesis Evangelion Ah, this man... the man every girl wants to marry... no? Menchi - Excel Saga Is she a minor character? I don't know. Probably not, but depends on how you see things. As a food supply, I think she cannot be a main character. In any case, with her watery eyes she's too cute. Not as much as Puuchuus though... Walter C. Dollneaz - Hellsing As meryl said. I couldn't believe he was able to do all those fancy things at his age! Amazing! Chiyo-chan's Father - Azumanga Daioh The yellow neko-being with superpowers is amazingly surreal... Good girls must eat tomatoes or he'll get mad Sumomo - Chobits I want her! I want her! WANT!!! >.< That's all I can think of for now. |
