I'd have to say FF9 is more enjoyable to play out of all of them. As for the better one it's a tie between 7 and 9, IMO.

I prefer FFIX the best, it has a lot of side quests and things to do. I really didnt like VIII cuz you miss one sertian card and your pritty well scrooed for beating the game... Thats what happened to me, I was at the very end but I didnt have the special items you get from the card so... And VII was good. So Ied have to say VII or IX.

FFVIII because of the cool card game and also the really good storyline along with excellent graphics. Also an easy to use junction system that is easy to use and also ties in with the story heavly!!!!!!!!!!!!
(plus it had the coolest airship of them all) Do not get me wrong though I really really enjoyed VII but it was a bit to fun, but enjoyable none the less. I didn't like FF 9 that much for some reason, I guess the story was kinda slow and nowhere as good as FF 7+8. I later found out though They had someone else work on it, they should have stucked with the other guy(forgot his name)

I thought that story-wise, FFVII was the best. I personally enjoyed FFIX more than any other FF game though, it was just more fun, and the numerous side-quests and extra bosses kept a player busy for a long time.

Okay, moved to the right forum.
I would say FF7 was the best out of those three. The materia system was a little mroe fun and realistic than the others.

FFVII with FFIX close behind, and FFVIII not so far behind that. FFVII has the best gameplay system (materia) and storyline, whereas FFIX has the better Dialgue and Soundtrack (which don't weigh up nearly as well)... I'd actually say that FFVIII is memorable because the sidequests were a nice balance of the useful and the long-winded and annoying (ie. far more of the former.) ... FFIX has plenty of side quests but most of them are just so annoying... but hey, FFVII's exploration was generally better anyway...

FFVII for me. Cloud is the perfect hero figure for me, and the characters are so well designed. The materia system was flawless, as were the side quests and chocobo breeding. I felt VIII was a little bit of a let down in the free-roaming department (disk four - all the towns were cut off). That destroyed VIII's promise for me. IX was a big relief - back to the good standards. Chocobo side quests were good again and the characters so much better than VIII. It also had that good old free roaming feel too.
And yeah, the Ragnarok was pretty badass...
