Gta 3 (ps2)
Gta VC (ps2) (rockstars even said its not grand theft auto 4, because the game takes place before Gta 3)
Gta SA (ps2) is technically 4.

If You even counted them properly the next games would be GTA 7.

But it will be Gta 5.

I'm pretty sure that GTA London wouldn't count as a fully fledged game - I believe the PC version was an Expansion pack for GTA1.. Also, doesn't SA also take place before GTA3? I thought it was an early 90s setting versus GTA 3's modern day one? Furthermore, I really think that the PS2 GTAs could be considered all as "GTA 3", because the technology is so similar and all 3 areas are those in the first GTA game. And then there's the simple fact that Rockstar will want to name the next numbered game "GTA 4" because if they chose 5, everyone would be wondering where the hell 4 got to...

I think it's all irrelevant though. Rockstar are probably through with numbering their games. Lots of games abandon the concept in favour of subtitles, and many series do this after the 3rd game... (Mario and Sonic spring to mind...)
