I don't like writing these days, but I thought I'd have a go here.
So there. Somewhat short, I'm hoping its the basis of a lyrical theme for some riff thats beens going around my head for weeks.
Edit : Expanded slightly more. A few new lines or so.

Cathedral

If this is the end and you're still without change,
then you should come match your wits against mine.
Oh how I learnt to sell myself out, to fit inside this box.
A jail, but how I learnt to change.

No rescue notes or something you once wrote
to keep me calm inside. So I burnt up in hate
and kept wishing to change forever.
A curse, but how I learnt to change.

This cathedral only has one use.

My night light, your night life.
And this city always makes me think of you.
All the love that we had.
All the love we abused.

And this time its over
goodbye to the machine era.
It was doomed to fail, yeah
we're always doomed to fail

This cathedral only has one use.

There is still that something eating at you,
still that cancer we could never cut out.
Falling into the cathedral how it stains the glass,
how we found that corpse and made it live.

I'm not sure I got the meaning of it, but I find it very impressive. The image of the cathedral is something that I don't know, makes me feel a bit anxious... I'm always scared of cathedrals and the imagery connected to them. I always have the impression they represent something that is going to fall apart, to crumble down, like something that is going to be self-destructed by invisible forces, yet they seem so powerful and imponent because of their aspect. So reading a text that mixes the image of a cathedral with something more intimate leaves me a strong and not describable impression. There's power in these lines, but also a sense of fragility. A strong contrast, very original result IMO.

To be honest I'm not sure i know what its about. I suppose it takes in a few things. The seeming invincible nature of the cathedral that dominates the town i live in and the change of everything around it whilst the cathedral doesn't change or indeed serve any purpose for myself. Also is a fear of everything and regret.
Thats my idea behind it I guess. I'm wondering if it is quite personal in the insecure nature of the words I used. Thankyou for your comments. To be honest I tend to write in a trance like state and never really consider the meaning. I just open up my thoughts.
