I think I may need some help next year should I become a Marine, go to the airforce, or the army? I have desided I am going but just not to which one, a little help.

I will be a helo pilot I know that for sure, just dont know where yet. This next question is more directed to SSSnake, Neo, and CC. if there is a war when I am in the military and I have to kill in order to prolong my life and came back would you think of me any different?

It would be nice to know in wich country you would have to serve.

To your second question:
I served for 3 years at the army at the medicals. From that point of view, the inner crisis you feel is even more obvious.

I shall use my weapons not only to prolonge my own life but life of men and wounded people that have been given to my supervision. The thing is that I have to wait others attacking me and/or the people I mentioned above before I "may" do so.

In Macedonia, I once had the situation that I had to shoot once (I thank god I´ve missed) in order to kill to save others and myself. You cannot imagine how heavy your rifle fells like when you do so for the first time.
At that time, I'm sure, I did the right thing, even if I hit the "target". But now I don't want to get in such a situation any more. The point is, when you subscribe to do longer, that you don't really believe this could happen, and if, it might be some adventure.
Under my command 3 mates got hurt, one seriously, though I did the best I could and were not to blame for it. It all just deepened my desire to become a doctor - a civilian one.

For this aim you will have to serve either as an uncommitted Officer or even as Officer. I know that because I fly myself and went to the Army originaly to fly. They did not take me because of 2 tiny faillures of my body though I fly as a civilian. It was a strike of luck that I had to go to the medicals instead.

They will look at your health and bodyshape (your vertebra!) with wide open eyes ´cause they only take the best. This is everywhere the same, exspecially in America.
I myself actually assisted a dotor doing such inspections, so I know what I am talking about, believe me.

When people tell me they had to shoot and kill (I saw a few cases of what psychiatrists call post traumatic stress dissorder)I feel I got no right to juge them if they obeyed legal orders.It´s just god´s grace, that I cannot. They just are people like you and me put in a situation that goes beyond human soul and feelings.

Different it would be, if somebody bragged with having killed - though some people have just this way to live with something they did not want either fooling themselves it was a good deed.

wow, thank you for that large information message, but here in the US, I will fly and I told the recruiters that I dont care how long it will take I will fly my helicopter, but I have not desided which branch though

You remind me of a small boy having graduated from high school in 1998 telling the same as you just do. Then he grow older and is answering your post right now...
No clou, really. I just know, marine will be the hardest thing to choose; the airforce gives best apperentices (as far as I now).But I wonder wether you would have the opportunity to chose. Even in the States there are not as many heli pilots as infanterists, for example. But I think you will see that early enough.
Me in your shoes, I would try to get as many information I could get. I could imagine the recruitment services are in internet, too. Keep eyes and ears open try to get in contact with former/serving soldiers.

I stress again: At that time the song "you´re in the army now" comes true for you, you will be thinking of me. Guaranteed! From my rank, I could be your group (or troup) leader as we call it here. Men like you I had more then once under my command, so I´m not gonna telling you lies.
My hint:
Serve ordinary duty (what any male American must do) first and then decide wether to prolonge. It will be easier for you because you win some time to watch it and to learn before leaders will expect from you more than from the others. And if you are clever, you´re able to meet the right people helping you on your way to the helis - when they see, you´re the right man for it.

If you do so, I would be in favour of Airforce, followed by Army.
