received a donation many months ago from our friend, goodman.

But now, I wouldn't put a Paypal donation button on the website for many reasons. The first reason is... how to say... "moral":, why should someone "donate" money to a gaming website when you can send them to the Unicef (for example)?

The other reasons are more practical: no more than 10-12 persons would donate something to the website, and while I'd immensely appreciate them, this wouldn't solve our problems. When it comes to the Internet, as you may have noticed, people expect to have things for free - adding to that, nobody clicks anymore on banners or stuff like that, so why should an occasional visitor who comes to a generic gaming website just to read a review or grab a cheat (they're 90% of our visitors) donate us some money? That's why I put the poll in the forums, where there are people who spend hours on the website everyday.

And I should remind you that the forums are just a part, a section of the website; it's the website that's going to die, because with no resources we can't offer content, with no content there's no reason to keep psfantasy.com up and running. If the website dies, the forums die.

But we are making everything too tragic here, after all the problem is simple!

We own a website. We want to offer professional content. Can we make enough money to mantain the server and justify our work? The staff will try to find a solution.

Now, all of you, enjoy psfantasy.com and ignore this thread.

If you get more banner clicks, do they pay you more?

I'll be happy to pay for a site like this. But if I do it will mean having to use my parent's credit card, but I'm sure they won't have a problem with that.

mog

I don't have time to read all these posts.. but I can't afford to pay for this site. I like this site and all and if I had more money or wasn't a student then maybe. Otherwise, if you made people pay I would have to leave this site.

why are all the good free sites on the internet starting to charge money?????????

this sucks big time!!!!!!!

if you do decide to charge you should charge by the year not the month, and letting us able to pay without the use of a credit card!!!!! (that's just my opinion)

they are because they are running out of fund's. if they could keep it free they probally would but sites like ps2fantasy cost money to stay up. but this wont be taken in action in a long time so dont worry about it.

I'd be not too sure about the "long time", but thanks for answering Matrix's question. Matrix: is not our fault, unfortunately.

I'll try to explain a complex thing in two words, if you are interested.

Three-four years ago we would have made several thousands of dollars with our current impressions (number of pages read by our visitors) and daily unique visitors. Advertisers used to paid "impressions" - for example, they were willing to pay 10$ (and much more) every 1,000 views of their banners. Let's say we currently have 40,000 daily pageviews on psfantasy.com - we would have been able to make 400$ dollars, daily.

Little by little, bigger companies and advertising networks started to offer lower rates for advertising on the Internet - after all, unlike smaller and medium websites, they were selling packages of millions of monthly impressions. The next step was offering pay-per-click and then pay-per-performance campaigns, that nowadays represent the standard: basically the advertiser pays only if a user buy something through a website. For example, you click on Ebay's banner, you register at Ebay, and then you buy something - at that point, we should receive let's say $4.00, but no earlier than one month after your purchase.

But this isn't the true meaning of advertising: on magazines, TV and radio stations, the true power of advertising is that you can let others know about your brand, your products, your name. Ad networks let advertisers create their rules on the Internet, and now we are part of a mechanism we - the small/medium websites - haven't created, but we've stupidly supported. They have turned us into their 24/24 365/365 risk-free online shops, and unluckily just a bunch of readers buys something by clicking on the banners in content-based websites - I mean, if you want to buy a game online, you just type the URL of your favorite online shop and you buy it.

So, there are less funds than many years ago, but owners of websites must provide good content to attract visitors, and they must pay increasingly higher rates to mantain their servers, pay bandwidth*, and all the rest.

*bandwidth - Bandwidth is the amount of data a website transfers over the Net. Basically, every single picture you see in this page consumes bandwidth, every single screenshot consumes bandwidth, every single page you see consumes bandwidth that we must pay.

I dont think the folks who run this site want to have to be sending monthly reminders that you need to send in your $1.50 or you will be removed from the site, maybe a one time fee for a year would work good for those who dont have a credit card, or arent responsible enough to even make that small a committment. Its never too late to start growing up and paying bills, though, ive done it for 25 years, and it never stops, so get used to it...
Oh, of course we'd make also one-time fees for 6 months, that's really not an issue Matrix.

Look at this thread, or other similar threads posted all around the forums. Then, come back here to read the answers of this poll.

You don't have 2 dollars, right? Yeah, sure.

Bye people, I'm disgusted and I won't come back to the forums.

I'll pay for the main site, if it's necessary, because I like it and I visit it quite often.

You're not the only one to have pointed something like that out Ruby. There are some other members who told us the same thing. It would be bad if you decide to leave for this matter. But as I tell to anybody else who says the "I'm leaving" sentence, do as you wish.

But we can't force anybody to support us if they don't want. A bit more of sincerity wouldn't hurt though.

Ruby, you don't understand. I'm 16. I have the money, but I don't have a credit card, therefore I can't pay via PayPal. Next time you make some smart ass comment about people having money, think about their age.

Really? Well when Harry said this:

Quote:
Would you pay a monthly fee of just 1.5$ to access this website and the forums? Most important, would you have the chance to pay for it if we set up a secure Paypal-based payment system (this means you must have access to a credit card or to a Paypal fund)?
It kind of made me think that it was Credit Card only...

And why should I check my attitude? Tell her to check hers. I would gladly pay a small $2.00 for these forums, but then she comes on and basically implies that we don't care about them?

Oh ok then. If that's the only problem, we'll accept international money orders, checks and cash. So you are all in?

Yea I can pay via a money order...but if that's the case, could you make it like...every 6 months or so? A bulk payment type thing...so I don't have to get a money order every month?

Hey, if you can come up with $2 a month, then all is cool, it will be figured out from there. People are making it seem like its a hard thing, though, and its as hard as pulling two dollars out of your pocket. Just that hard, not any more.
The two dollars wasn't the problem, it was the payment method...but if I can pay through MO, then it's fine.

The way Ruby said it made it sound like everyone that couldn't pay didn't care at all. That definitely isn't the case. Lots of us would pay, but since we thought it would only be Credit Card, lots of us said we couldn't.

OK, im in, but there's a problem, in Canada we don't have a 1 or 2 dollar bill anymore, and I don't have a check book. So, is a toonie($2) good enough, you know, coins?

But I got an idea with this also, if we sented more than $2, example: say like...$6, and you could take off 2 months from paying you in advance of the $6, because your paying for this month, that would be $2, then what I mean of advance payment, was the $4 left would be able to cover you for couple of more months. I hope I didn't confuse you guys with my idea.
