I have that movie. i'm not sure why i got it, because i hate it. I never really watched it till the end. I got bored half way through it.


Hmm... i watched The Lake House yesterday, and i really wanted to see it, for many reasons, it's the typical "chick flick", no doubt. predictable... but not bad.
And today i watched Poseidon, this one i liked it alot, i didn't think it would be any good, but i was surprised, sure it's no master piece, but its a good movie.

I watched Sha Po Lang(AKA SPL), it's a hong kong flick which blew me away great acting, strong story, beautiful twists. Recommended to anyone who can dig asian policemovies.

Days ago I had the pleasure to watch the last of Akira Kurosawa's movies, Madadayo. It's a slow movie, very focused on little details and relationships between characters, and it's a great declaration of love towards positive values as respect, dedication, friendship, imagination and sensitivity.

I watched Silent Hill yesterday and I have to say that I really REALLY enjoyed the movie.

That's the hollywood remake of Infernal Affairs 1 right? Did you see the original? I'm affraid they're just gonna screw it up like they do with most remakes of asian flicks.

Yes and judging from the trailer the film looks overdramatized (sorry Audrey ). But I could be wrong...Audrey, care to elaborate?

I heard Scorsese stayed true to the original plot, but there are several factors that really made me wary of the film...the biggest one is Leonardo DiCaprio and then the film looks too "Hollywood-ized" which isn't always a bad thing, but the original had a subtler tone to it so I feel kinda "hmmm" about this remake. But like I said, I could be wrong.

The reason there have to be remakes for movies, especially when the original is good and especially when the movie is very recent, is beyond me. It really pisses me off to see so many excellent Asian movies are being remade just because...? What is it? Average western audience can't force themselves to watch Asian actors or actors that are not famous enough for them? It's a ridiculous farce. Being this the case of a director, Scorsese, that usually delivers quality films, I am hopeful I won't be regretting the original too much. But still the whole question of remakes irritates me a lot.

No no, it's because they can't be bothered to read subtitles...it's just too difficult for them; like I remember reading somewhere where this one woman who disses off all foreign films, such as "Amelie", just because she can't stand reading subtitles.

It's all about the current lack of originality that's been plaging(???) Hollywood for soo long. It's all about remakes of old movies or sequels, when they run out of Hollywood movies to remake(texas chainsaw, hills have eyes, pink panther, assualt on precinct whatever etc.) they turn to foreign movies. I no longer want to rent movies for that reason it's 95 % uninspired hollywood crap, I rather save some money and buy some import or at least non-hollywood movies.
I just bought some old-school Miike Yakuza-flicks...

Remakes are bad for your brain's health! Most of them are an offence to the original! I don't think for foreign movies it's a subtitles' problem. It's true people don't like to read them, but you can get a dubbed version of almost any DVD nowadays. For example my friends say they don't like asian movies because all actors look alike and they can't recognize faces and they get bored because they are unable to feel interested. Hollywood knows that, buys the copyrights and cuts a lot of pre-production expenses, making a new movie with famous stars that will get people's attention. People don't even know the original exists in many cases, and if they know, they can't be bothered to watch it. Same for old movies. If the movie is too old and for example is black&white, people find it annoying or weird and don't like watching. If you film it again with new effects, colors and actors people can recognize, they enjoy it. Too bad movies are not all about flashy colors and actors appearing in gossip magazines everyday. But normal people are only interested in big names and massive advertising. They can't tell the difference between good and bad

I was only being sarcastic when I said the subtitles thing (at least the first part...the woman is something I actually read). Sorry for the confusion...it's true that dubs are available with nearly all foreign films nowadays. Unfortunately, 99% of dubs are awful so there are some people who can't stand dubs and can't stand subs, so that's why they avoid it all together.

EDIT: Oh, for good movies, go see "The Prestige." People will hate it or like it, but I really liked it...it's not confusing as people say it is. It was unfortunate that I guessed the whole thing in the middle so the ending wasn't a surprise, but it was a good film nonetheless.

I watched Takashi Miike's family part 1, a bit strange and brutal at times but overall a good movie.
Another one I enjoyed lately is Sympathy for mr.Vengeance.

Here's one, it's not new, and not the greatest movie of all time, but i like it alot, Eternal, it came out in 2004 if i'm not mistaken, it's based on the life of Erzbeth Bathory, alot of people don't like and the rating is very low, but then again, sometimes that doesn't mean anything. at least not for me. and it's R Rated.

I think i've read Scorsese said it's not a remake of the Hong Kong movie, but it's based on the same story that inspired the Infernal Affairs movies as well. I don't care much because I haven't watched the other movie, so I can onli base my opinion on what I know. And trust me, the movie is good. Very entertaining and great cinema. I'm not a fan of DiCaprio or Damon, but you I doubt you'll regret watching even if you don't like either of them.
