Valve recently confirmed that when you install Half-Life 2, you'll be prompted to set up a Steam (their content delivery system app). The installer then authenticates your Half-Life 2 CD-Key and what have you with the Steam master servers. There is no legal way round this - all versions of Half-Life 2 have to authenticate with Valve's Steam servers to unlock the game. It prevents piracy (though someone could presumably modify the .exe to skip the step, which would be illegal - but i'm pretty sure that it's not as easy as that anyway) but at the same time, if you can't connect to the internet during installation, you can't install the game... Thankfully, you don't need to have the connection active anytime after installation (Unless you want to play an online game of course).

I'm not sure how all this will affect sales of the game. On the plus side, if it's difficult to pirate, most people will have to pay to play. But that's also a potential negative until a proper demo is out so that people can try before they buy. As for the necessity of an Net connection, It sets me wondering. I guess if you're the kind of person who has a decent PC so you could enjoy HL2 in the first place, you'll probably also have a net connection... That does a lot to show how "niche" this game will be (ok, that's a bit harsh - the original still sold 10 million copies, which is pretty good for a PC game). The latest rumours say that there may not even be a console version of the game after all... that they're holding it back till PS3 and XBox2.

I see, could be unfair to some people, but if you really want it you have to do it, and who has a PC (decent one) spent lots of money on it and hasn't considered the internet? I doubt it will affect the sales major.

Probably MGS. However, if you want to be old school about it...I loved Streets of Rage and Toe Jam and Earl for the Sega...great games to play with a friend to pass the time. The funniest thing about TJ&E was that the point was pretty much to be hip.

There's quite a few games that I've played that grabbed my attention.

Anyways... the best game(s) I've played

Ninja Gaiden (Xbox): This game is currently my favorite since it keeps me occupied and not bored out of my mind.

Shenmue (Dreamcast): Honestly, this game is something I can play over and over again. I like the 2nd one as well because it had more action, but I think I like the 1st one alot better.

FFVIII: This is the only FF game I played. (currently playing FFX) And normally I do not care for RPG's, but this one made me addicted to playing RPG's... so thumbs up to that.

Marvel vs Capcom 2: Actually almost every Street Fighter game. I love fighting games, but this one would probably be the best I've played thus far.

I'm just going to list three of the games that I have a reason to like, and not just because they're good:

The Sonic The Hedgehog serise-When I first started buying games for myself and not my parents buying them for me(4-6 years old) I used to go to the shop and look for a sonic game, and if they didn't have one, then I didn't buy anything.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City-The only game to keep me up for almost two days with only breaks to eat. (I think)

Metal Gear Solid-The only game to make me fear for the main character's life in the cut scenes. (I think)
