I think the main problem I had with the film was that there was no where near enough character and relationship buildup. Also a couple of parts I would like to have seen...

Spoiler: show

1. Ron and Hermione always fight when they are with each other. You don't see very much of this. In fact the only argument I recall them having is about Scabbers and Crookshanks.

2. They don't spend much time in the Divination room. So you don't get why Hermione doesn't like Treelawney.

3. The one part I was waiting to see... Harry is playing Quiditch and Malfoy and his friends dress up like Dementors and try and scare Harry. Harry uses the Patronus Charm on them and they are the ones that end up scared. It was one of the best parts in the book.

4. A lot of parts were left for people to work out the pieces. It isn't explained who made the Marauders Map you have to deduct the info for yourself. Same with the relationship between Snape and Lupin. Snape didn't like Harry's father; Lupin was one Harry's father's best friends.

5. Someone mentions a potion to Lupin before he turns into a Werewolf. This explains the reason Snape was following Lupin into Shrieking Shack. It's actually supposed to make Lupin calmer when he is a werewolf or something like that.

6. Harry gets his Firebolt at Christmas time. This is important for the Quiditch cup. Which is another semi-important thing in the book. It's the team captain's last year at school. Gryfindor hasn't won the cup in a long time. Harry on his Firebolt = unstoppable.

7. There was no going away feast or scene at the train station. While probably not that important it certainly would have made for a much better ending.

It should be made for those who read the books. I mean...if they hadn't there would be no movies. Considering all the key parts in the book it has to be 3 hours. If they cut out a lot of the Triwizards Tournament I will be severely disappointed. It's one of the most important parts of the book.

GOOD STUFF!

Saw it two nights ago, quite fun, ive never read any of the books so dont have the critical eye that some of you do, but be assured this series is only growing in popularity (critics alongside). Oh, as a side note the great Robert Hardy from the series i so dearly liked called All Creatures Great and Small, is the headmaster or whatever they call him, the older man with the brownish-reddish hair. I saw him in a early episode of The Saint made back in 61 or so, he has been around for many decades, wonderful British actor, and plays another great part in this show...

YES YES AND YES! I totally agree with everything you said, couldn't have put it better myself!
I Too was very dissapointed about point No.3 that you made! I was so looking forward to that.

I was also hoping they would make the 4th into 2 parts just for the fact that then loads wouldn't be cut out, in 2 parts but only about a month apart.

I'm really looking forward to seeing
Spoiler: show
The Merpeople! And siruis' head in the fire..
so I hope this isn't cut out or changed!

Well we'll just have to wait and see.

And to all who haven't read the books, I really must recommend you do at some point in your life! It's well worth it!

I really liked it... The Directorial touches were pretty good - some of the imagery was great, like the Whomping Willow through the seasons and the way that the Dementor's "aura of death" type thing was visually shown (the death of a flower and such as they passed by) rather than repeated in dialogue. My problems with the movie aren't the scenes they left out but the basic facts they neglected. How much screentime would it have taken for Lupin, or Sirius or anyone to say
Spoiler: show
"BTW, I'm Moony, Sirius is Padfoot, Your dad was Prongs and Perigrew was Wormtail".
The whole animagus thing wasn't mentioned at all, and the appearance of Harry's Stag Patronus may as well been some sexual metaphor rather than the image of his father's protection that its supposed to be. Whilst scenes would take a long time to act out, and extra line of dialogue wouldn't have. I followed the story perfectly, but both of my sisters and my mum had to have it explained, and I can see why. My dad said he followed it, but experience tells me that men just say that anyway, regardless of whether they're right or wrong

Ah, thank you very much Preventer. Those parts you mentioned sounds very interesting and I would've liked to see it visually.

BTW, I forgot to mention (unimportant): I thought the Dementors are gorgeous. They're so beautiful...

But not WHY he was an animagus. To me, the whole point in him (and all of them) being animaguses is because It was a show of friendship - a friendship very poorly established by the film. As it is, Hermione's description of an animagus and anything Ron said were just there to serve as an excuse for two CGI dog-type things to have a fight. What, How and Why come as a package
