No offence, but my brother has the CD and I think they've changed a lot. I like some of their earlier songs better. Anyway then there's also any of the other four rock CDs I own.

I don't really notice too much of a change, but even if they have changed, who cares, its still great, this is one of my favorite albums from them...

Retro Style...

In rock history... What is your favorite time period?? I love the oldies... but for me the early 90's was a huge era. You had bands like Nirvana and Pearl Jam breaking the 80's hairband down and letting rock ring true... it produced some of my favorite songs of all time. ON the other hand it also ushered in a time of mindless pop... so i am at an intersection in my thinking... but i hate pop music of the modern era so i dont really care.. Early 90s for me anyways... And when you post tell what bands you think changed that era.
Bush... STP... Nirvana... Alice in Chains... Rage...
Now its your turn...

It seems no one cares what I have said here, but that's okay. So, I'll go out saying all I listen to as far as any kind of rock music goes is Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, and Carlos Santana. Also Santana is a great guitar player as far as I'm concerned.

Nobody was ignoring you trunks. Personally, I dont know how I feel about Limp Bizkit these days and I never really liked Linkin Park, but Carlos Santana is most definately a guitar god. Just listening to his live material...this guy is insane. I love his style...combining that latin feel with the hard rock and the live bands he puts together are something else! Santana is truly a musical genius.

I just bought some new cd's (lp is one of them as seen elsewhere) and i was wondering if anyone here has heard of the group SOULFLY? The lead singer max cavelera used to be the lead for Sepultura, and that was a kick ass band. I enjoy soulfly a lot and was wondering if anyone else on here did as well.

Also i am planning on going to Project Revolution 2003 tour (linkin Park, Mudvayne, Blindside, and Xzibit) and was wondering what/ if any/ tours will you be seeing this season(spring/summer). I went to a few concerts so far and i cannot deny my taste anylonger for live shows. My tally so far is Audioslave, Disturbed, Chevelle and Taproot. I hope to add many more to these but i wanted to know if you guys are gonna hit any shows too? Take it easy and see ya soon.

YES!! somehow i knew you would like soulfly... you have a kick ass taste in rock music! I have heard of memento, i was going to buy their CD... is it worth it and what kind of music(who are they like?) do they play? I was not too excited to see Chevelle, but they sound a lot better live then they do on the radio. They rock harder than i thought(still wont buy a cd but hey!). Taproot is awesome live. I bought their CD when it first came out but it was softer than they are live. They kick major ass! The lead singer went out across the whole arena at the show and was interracting w/ the fans a lot, that was awesome. I don't even have to say how disturbed was... They were awesome. They tore down the F-ing house man. Just about every song they should have played they did. and when it was all over they came out for an encore and played Stupify!! HELL YES!! The pit was insane there too! I reccomend highly seeing disturbed and Taproot live if you ever get the chance. The tour they are on now is "music as a weapon II". If you wanna know.

Man I have dug SOULFLY from the beginning. I have had the first album since it came out practically which i still think is their best album. I was tellin all my friends about them for the longest time. Max Cavalera is a genius. That tribal/metal stuff is great. It's good that they aren't just another nu-metal band and have a unique sound. Definately worth checking out for anybody who hasn't before. Be sure to get the first one first...it's the quintessential one I think! Also, notice that Chino Moreno Defontes) and dudes from a bunch of bands (e.g. Fear Factory, Slipknot) are friends with these guys so they make guest appearances.

BTW, Is anybody into Black Metal or anything similar?? a la Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, Mayhem, SAcrementum, Satyricon, IN Flames, etc...??

I also was a fan since... well since at least 99. When i was on the wrestling team "Quilombo" was our opening music. I wanted to buy the cds for the longest time but they either cost way too damn much or couldnt find the right one. I found a place that has them all and are priced good too. After i buy a gba sp i am going to finish my soulfly collection.
I have never heard of the stuff you mentioned above, but you seem to have a lot in common w/ me as far as music goes and i want to check it out.
Is it easy to find these cds?? I enjoy/welcome any new music experience as long as it doesnt start w/ an *Nsync or somes shit like that
Red... where do you live?? I wouldnt mind seeing a concert w/ someone like you. That goes for anyone if they wanna try and hook up at a show... tell me where your gonna be/who your gonna see and i will see if i can try and i emphasize try, to get there. I love music and i love people who love music so rock on and keep the good shit coming!

Yeah soulfly is a good band( IMO not as good as the older sepultura when they released beneath the remains and arise but anyway...). Sepultura without max isn't good anymore... soulfly should be called sepultura that would do justice to the bandname.
Yo red I used to listen to black and death metal like 7 years ago bands like darkthrone, celtic frost, blasphemy, morbid angel, terrorizer( be sure to check them out!!!), master.....
I really liked the extreme nature of the music now when I got a bit older I calmed down
For the show part I go to a few shows every month but it's a bit silent these days in holland... luckily for me the festival season is getting started. I'm looking forward to see the following bands/festivals: fields of rock, madball, waldrock, mid-summer hardcore fest( hatebreed ah yeah!!!!!!!!!!).
I can only encourage you to see as much bands live as you can...it's the only way to truely listen to the music IMO( LOUD AS HELL )

Strange, as I have gotten older over the years I have increasingly listened to such bands as their form of metal is more mature and requiring of increased musicianship, than some of the more mainstream bands here in the U.S. Interesting phenomenon. I find black metal and related genres and their more classical oriented sections in their song satisfying for when i need to relax myself. To me bands like Hatebreed or Slipknot are indications of a more youthful mind in a lot of instances. Anyways I love all kinds of metal. Check this site out guys:

Here you go

I don't agree with all of their opinions(especially some of their reviews on some of my fav albums by certain bands i happen to think are incredible and classic and many other avid listeners would agree ) but it's one of the most extensive looks at metal I've ever seen! Almost more than I wanted to know

I don't hear many black metal nowadays, but classical?? I know cradle of filth does that kind of stuff but a few years back you couldn't hear anything classical in black metal it was just bassically right up there with english grindcore old carcass and napalm death only with a satanic twist...but as always music evolves so I will check it out.

P.S. I will LMAO when I hear a band like marduk or darkthrone do classical stuff

I just now got back to here, sorry for taking so long. Anyway, it just felt like people were ignoring and thanks for the encouragement to post again here. I would like to go to the Project Revolution tour for just LP and Xzibit if it ever comes over to the northern VA/DC/Maryland area or anyother upcoming concerts in this area.

nice... Glad someone besides me put something back into this thread... I love to d/l songs... but i need to wait.. thanx for the new list for me to get into though berserker!

Well... i am trying to think of where to talk about this and i was thinking of here but it wouldve looked bad if i ressurected this thread just for this purpose:

What does everyone around here think of Marilyn Manson...in the song for the day thread i have been listening to him a lot lately and i was wondering what my fellow metalheads think of him. Well.. not so much him but rather his music. Everyone probably has preconcieved ideas of him because of the way he dresses... but thats not what i am asking about... but feel free to comment on it if you choose...

Thanx again for bringing this thread back!

Haven't heard much of manson's new cd, I'm not a big fan of his music but I liked what he did with that song tainted love...that video is way too cool with the evil teddy's and stuff. I like it when metal bands stay away from the stereotype video stuff like live shows and shit and try something different. For that reason I think the monster magnet video with all the bling bling( ) is awesome can't think of the name right now but it starts out in black and white and fast turns into this madness with all the girls dancing in the streets of Vegas and the singer throwing around money I LMAO. It's been never done before by a stoner rock band and I find it freakin'excellent.

That's that Spacelord Mother Mother song. It's on their Power Trip cd. I love that song and it's probably one of my favorites. Dave Wyndorf (Monster Magnet frontman) has some interesting comments about that song and what it's all about along with the video and his band's "attitude" at the time.

I'm gonna post the lyrics under my song for the day because I'm listenin to it right now. Thanks for mentioning it
