I think you misunderstood actually... I was enjoying reading this little bout of conflict in here I guess my mind is a lil on the evil side right now You should see the hip hop forums on myspace. This is nothing

OK... sorry for double posting but WOW. I sing myself and I cant even imagine that.

Chris Cornell of Soungarden/Audioslave is pretty amazing in that regard. Check out some Soundgarden tunes to hear what he can really do. I dont think he's able to go as high as he used to due to the years of strain on his voice, but back in the day it was crazy. Slaves and Bulldozers on their album Badmotorfinger is a good example.

As for U.S, well. Where do I begin?
There's some incredibly amusing lines in your above post that I guess you picked straight from the big book of arguing on the internet: "[insert name here]. do [x]. get/stick your [y] from/into your [z]. I am right because of [insert some weak and often quite mystifying self-validating comment here]. Again, you go off on some hyperbole about how impressive this video clip is and how we'll all bow down to your clear superior musical knowledge, and when somebody says that it's not to their tastes, you come back with more hyperbole and leave us with safe in the knowledge that we're being educated.

Well, here's a fact for you. We don't care! Time and time again on this board you've made out that you're this great musical expert, but you don't walk it like you talk it. Whilst you were posting your nonsense I was on stage with my band for the third time in a week, yet have you seen me mention it before? No! Mainly because as soon as I talk about my band on this forum, god forbid, I get the self appointed musical expert down my back. So after the studio time that is booked up for this month, will I post the tracks up here? No, because I quite frankly have no need for your pointless and unconstructive criticism. However, as you're quite the expert and leave the rest of us here in the shade, perhaps you'll share something of your own, finally. You need to learn, kid, that music is about a lot more than ability. It's about passion and wanting to do something. It's about beauty and noise and mistakes and if you're just looking it with critical, vain little eyes, you'll never enjoy it as much as you could.
Wow. I didn't read that particular post until now.

First of all, any comments against you started after your random negative remarks against the vids others posted. You didn't even offer constructive criticism.

Second of all, it may just be me, but I wasn't the slightest bit offended by Sasuke droppin a lil musical knowledge on us. In fact, I was excited since I live to discuss that type of thing. Nobody here is personally attacking you and your hard work put into your music, yet you act like Sasuke hit a soft spot. Whatever insecurities he brought up by simply mentioning the vocal power of this musician he admires and talking about octave ranges need to be let go, man. While I agree with you that musicianship has more aspects than ability, most dedicated musicians are able to recognize ability in eachothers' compositions and the fact that ability is the key to opening new doors in what you create as a musician. If your attitude is to get offended everytime you hear a musician with great technical ability getting noticed instead of you, then you should lose that attitude quick.

Honestly, my hope is that when you hear other musicians that may be more advanced or more knowledgable than you at something, you will have a fire start to burn in your belly to step up your game. You need to be humble and learn from competition and when you prove yourself by demonstrating your newfound songwriting abilities you can truly be proud of yourself.

Oh Yeah Cornell is freaking amazing, espically in his older days. I mean espically when he's a baritone. I never heard such highs from one before him, well accept for Ian Gillian. But yeah Slave and Bulldozers is a kick ass tune when it comes to a display of killer vocal power. I would also suggest Beyond The Wheel. If your curious I could upload it.

I got that song Beyond the Wheel. I have that first album of theirs "Ultra Mega OK" That's one of my fav songs on the album, too.

God, I'll start showing you respect when you learn how to spell and use punctuation. Go back and read the thread, and even if it screws your eyes up and hurts really badly, try to understand where the conflict has come from. Come on! You can do it! Stop dragging your knuckles and come join us in the twenty first century!

Faile, sometimes you just piss me off. even if the band is over hyped it doesn't mean bash on them because you have a superiority complex, and why the hell did you call me emo kid? excuse me but when have I ever displayed any emo stereotypes? okay, so I like arctic monkeys, suck my balls, if i like them, I LIKE THEM, NOT YOU. so how about you keep your negative comments to yourself.
and your band sucks balls. lick my gootch, ****.
(I get to talk shit back mainly because you started it, and don't mind my grammar or punctuation errors, I'm a little buzzed)
The band are hyped, fact. I don't care if you like them, fact. Why should I not be allowed to state that I dislike a band without fools like you kicking off about it? Christ boy, grow a fucking spine. Your comment about my band is the best one yet though. Have you heard us? No! Oh, how I laughed. How could you have heard us? Have you been in the Manchester area recently? Been to any of our shows? No! But because you're missing out, I'll post the most recent review, from manchestermusic.co.uk

Quote:
...[They've] got talent though; his Wedding Present shirt a clue, and his tales of love and life recall Gedge in his dark, lost, Pavement-like years and are delivered in a similarly sung-spoken tone. During the last track he reflects on missed opportunities, almost too close to the bone, and I’m left wondering about all the bands any of us never saw that we could have fallen in love with...
Which renders your oh-so-mature comments rather useless doesn't it? You're hardly shaking my faith in my band. You get to talk shit back? Kid, you never stop talking shit. Why did I call you emo? Because you're whining like some little emo kid, that's why.

Quote:
man.. all I wanted was to share a video of a band I enjoy and that prick came and crapped all over it. and he didn't even do it smooth like vic viper (who is the fucking raddest member aside from rechick and redpyramidhead on this forum) he just said it because he felt like it.

oh and I enjoy oqylsdfs sasuke's posts because at least he knows his musical stuff unlike faile who probably hits power chords while his band screams away lyrics of how life sucks
And here he is whining some more? What's up little emo kid? I didn't "crap all over" the video you posted. I said they were overhyped (fact.) and thus I thought they were no good. Sir, you're placing far too much importance on my opinion. And yes, I probably hit power chords. Although you'd not know, again. Still, you know what? Power chords are fun. Does life suck? I guess it does for people like you. Some of us are getting good reviews though and are secure with who we are.

You don't like conflict? How many times have you blundered in to a thread here and caused a scene? I've certainly lost count. Kid, I have a variety of musical qualifications and work in music retail. Do you think I need your knowledge rammed down my throat? No! I don't and especially not when your knowledge is incorrect.

I like how this is one way traffic. It's SERIOUS BUSINESS when I happen to say how I dislike a band, but fine when anyone else does it. Still, it is amusing. I'm not sure why you think I have to respect other people's musical tastes and never dare to voice my own opinion! Like I've said before, I'm more than happy for other people to disagree with me, but the key is to justify it. I've more than justified my original post with my opinion. Sadly, I don't see that coming the other way from you kids.

See, I like Jeff Buckley. I play the same guitar as he did on Grace (black 1995 fender mexican strat with custom pickup at bridge). We can get along! Hurrah!

I don't need to offer constructive criticism! I'm not trying to get anybody to improve their musical tastes! My whole argument is that they should be secure enough not to respond like an idiot because (shock horror) one person said he thought band X were no good. We certainly shouldn't have strayed in to the territory where I'm getting nasty things said about me and my band, should we?

Again, I believe what I said was in response to his fit of shock when he was told that this guy's voice was as good as other musicians. My, oh my. I still believe that technical ability does not equal amazing music, as often it lacks passion. Again, that's just my opinion. My opinions seems to be a cross I'm having to bear but I'm not going to dillute myself for others. I still believe I've not really acted out of line in anyway, especially given the reaction of certain members. I'm very secure about what I think, feel and create. For the first time in my life perhaps, but certainly I am secure in it. Sorry kids.

And when I hear other musicians that inspire me, I do push myself harder. There's a few local bands here and when I see them I come back and I learn and adapt and try to equal them. Likewise with a long list of bands I could mention now. And I believe that the above review we got proves an awful lot. I'm being compared to two of my all time heroes - David Gedge (of the Wedding Present) and Pavement. That's pretty flattering for me and I was amazed, because I know there's an awful lot more I could be doing with the band. Time will tell, I guess.

Guys, we can all get along on this forum, but as has been said, we do have to respect each others opinions. What started this? Was it when I stated how I disliked a band? Respect my opinion and believe in your own enough to let it run off your back like a duck or a swan or something. It's not the end of the world. Still, passionate fiery musical debate is always fun.

Since he has now went on to prove my point I see no need to continue. Thus I rest my case.

Anyways here's some Kamelot with vocalist Roy Khan. He happens to be another one my favorites due to his killer vibrato and ability to articulate perfectly.

You've got no case to rest. You never did and hence you can't reply.

Pulp - I Spy (live) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HmVk...ch=Pulp%20live

Live performance from the mid nineties and highlights when britpop was going under in a haze of cocaine, and things got a lot darker. Leads on perfectly to this is hardcore.
You see, I spy for a living and I specialise in revenge...

Pavement - Here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6zKl...earch=Pavement

It's a music video but it's composed of footage from their 1991 tour with Sonic Youth.

Bikini Kill - Rebel Girl (live) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_q3S...=Bikini%20Kill

Yeah, all the way from DC in 1992, a force for change. One of my most favourite bands ever. Kathleen Hanna would later form Le Tigre. Also check out another song; Bloody Ice Cream live here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7i6Jq...=Bikini%20Kill

Sleater Kinney - Heart Factory (live) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2lLS3...sleater-kinney

Again, another one of my favourite bands and a fucking amazing performance. So very loud and heavy and above all important.

The Smiths - Still Ill (live) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-269...=smiths%20live
+ this charming man (live) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpiU-...charming%20man

Incredible band. Amazing. And Morrissey is unlike any other man this world has ever produced.

I would go out tonight, but I haven't got a stitch to wear...

Good game there faile, you go to show how desperate you are to pull mistakes from whatever I say. Hell if you got this much time on your hand you must be pretty desperate for attention to keep coming back with such detailed ignorance.

Plus you can't say something like the Pumpkins is that much better. Its all a matter of preference. Learn to freaking accept the fact people have different tastes. Just because someone's band happens to be popular and sells more than your music, doesn't make it worse. It would be much more respectful if you didn't post anything to it. Hell I didn't go outta my way to attack you and you know it and same goes for anyone else in this thread.

And yes on this one I admit that I did participate in a lot of conflicts, but very few I have started that much I am sure of. And don't go off claiming you know more than me Faile. As far as I'm concerned your in the same boat as me as far as knowledge, atleast in your area. Just because you work in retail doesn't make you any better than the average person. Hell I'll probably be attending Berklee School Of Music next year cause of my creditials.

Well heres the thing. You do it in such an insulting way that everyone hates you for it. If you had just a tad bit more respect maybe we wouldn't mind as much. So I'm curious, you slammed my vid but yet you seem to give a little credit to TA "Technical Ability." Why couldn't you just have said that you didn't like the style but the guy has an amazing voice? You know that would have cut down on a whole lot of crap. I for one would've of respected it. But instead you say its a display of music people should stay away from. Seriously man you seem to put yourself in these situations. Calm down and take the time to think before you type. I see no problem with you not liking something but please post it in a respectful and constructive matter.

Well, there goes your moral standpoint again.

Quote:

It's less a willingness to show up your mistakes and more a desire for people to use correct spelling and things. Just the way I am. Am I desperate for attention? I'm not the one who's refusing to let this drop so much that his two previous claims of having done so have run now to nothing.

Where have I attacked somebody else's musical tastes? I've not done this AT ALL. Sir, my opinion is not all important. It's just my opinion.
This isn't about how well the music sells, it's about me not liking the Artic Monkeys in relation to how many times we, in England, were told that they are the best thing ever. I believe I mentioned that before? If I didn't like commercially succesful music why would I have posted a Pumpkins song? They're one of the biggest selling bands of the last twenty years. Think on.

And Kudos to you for doing so. But again, for the third time now, I'm going to tell you that the most amazingly skilled music in the world won't mean a thing to me unless it moves me.

I don't think I'm insulting anybody, given the relative context of some posts here and I hardly think that what, two of you? three of you? can constitute "everyone".
I've been saying all along that you don't need to justify your opinions too, like I don't feel I have to justify mine, past it being my opinion. If you had been paying attention, you might have noticed it was theme in my previous posts. Arrogance, again, is relative. Maybe I am. Maybe I deserve to be, finally. Just don't think that there aren't people I respect an enormous amount on this board, and indeed off it. There are.

I believe I made my point. Technical ability is all fine and dandy, but it doesn't (for me personally, before anyone shouts again) make it necessarily brilliant music. Wagner was an amazing musical mind, but who here has ever wanted to listen to the whole of the Ring. As Rossini said of Wagner; "Excellent moments and terrible quarters of an hour". That sums up what I think of an awful lot. Certainly I can hear, say Dream Theatre, and think 'Ooh, that's amazing ability', but I won't think how much it moves me or challenges me. I've been in a band with the biggest Dream Theatre fan in the world, and whilst he disagreed with me, he respected my opinion on the matter, as should you.

Anything to add?

Basically just excersize everything you said. You said I should respect what you say. I will in the case that the statement is not offensive. Like the one I recieved from my Steelheart vid or the one gamer got. I see your point about the Artic Monkey's after reading the last part of your post above but you did not make it clear before and sounded rather offensive with your delivery. So all I can say is please walk the path you talk from now on.

Ahhh, music debates are soooo much fun! It's amazing how righteous and self-important people can get about something that's sooooo subjective...

Funny how some folk can't appreciate it's all "different strokes for different folks"...

So anyways, I know this is a video thread but I thought I'd post some MP3's of stuff I've been involved with.

A couple of caveats first.... I'm a child of 80's **** rock. Music is meant to be fun and nothing epitomises that more for me, that 80's rock. Guitars, motorbikes, chicks, sex, drugs... etc etc... so with that in mind, you should kinda know what to expect here. By the way, I'm a drummer...

The first song is from 1998. It was from my old band called Baby Strange and was featured on a CD called Tramspotting which was available through HMV and Virgin in Liverpool. There were 16 artists featured and my band was the only rock band chosen for the CD. For the more technically minded of yous, there's some pretty cool fret-tapping in the first solo and some amazing arpeggio sweeps in the last solo. I don't expect anyone to like it, but what the hell - I thought I'd share with you. This is called "You've Found".
Baby Strange - You've Found

This next one is for a friend of mine who is recording a solo album. His drummer let him down so he asked me to record for him, so I had a week to learn the song. This is basically an instrumental that is meant to have a real "old school" vibe. AC/DC is the kinda feel we were going for and I hope we succeeded.

Now, I'm not one for knowing much about guitar amps, but it was recorded using Marshall Plexi's (some kind of customised Marshall amp I think) and hence is why it's called "Plexified".

Plexified

So there ya go. I expect some criticism about how it's not relevant, or sucks, or some other shit cos it's not Radiohead... but hey - it's my kind of vibe so I dig it and if any of you enjoy it too - then even better!

So now I've started the ball rolling, anyone else gonna post some of their own stuff?

- S

When I get the time I'll listen to all the stuff you guys posted(or at least a fair part of it). I would love to post some of my own music, we released one full-lenght back in the 90's and were present on quite a few hardcore-samplers way back. Don't think anything is online, so I'll need to rip it to mp3 at home. When I have the time I'll try to get round to that at night.

PS Faile nice to read your band is getting good reviews, I remember you posted some of your music way back and I liked it(don't know if it's your current band or sound though).

Plus: Never knew you were in a band spank?? I can't wait to here your drumming.

Ok I finally figured out how to record shit. I always got myself some kinda free program for dinking around with. So I recorded something real quick. Pretty much no editing or volume adjustments, so it sounds incredibly rough!!!! Plus when the vox kick in I did not warm up so I sing outta key for the majority of the song lol. But hey its rushed, but atleast I can record now HAHAH!!! So I'll post some stuff I take some time with in the future. Now I just have to get the drums in
