Well, i saw this movie opening night with most of my friends, and well, that rating of a d+ that meryl mentioned, well, i would have given it an F.

usually i'm really good with movies and whatnot, and most movies that people say are crap i can still find wys to enjoy them. Especially action flicks like this one. i was almost creaming my pants while watching the trailers and whatnot, it looked so good. But then when i finally got to watching it, me, and well, pretty much the other dozen or so with me all said that it was definatly not worth the money.

The action sequences did kick a lot of ass, and the special effects, costumes and everything of that nature was really good. ANd it had a really good musical score. But that's it. usually cheezy dialouge doesn't bother me, but this one took the cake. It felt like i was watching a corney action cartoon. Everything was more than predictable in the movie. That also hardly ever bothers me, but with this, i didn't even feel that it was creative or new or unique or anything. IUt was just bland and predictable. The entire movie i was waiting for something more, but it just never happened. The story, well, there was none, and the characters seemes very plastic to me.

Obviously, this is only my opinion with everything i've said. And usually movies like this i like a lot. But i just didn't find anything worth the moeny to see in this movie.

I saw the movie and I thought it blew. Worse waste of money ever. F, F, F and more F!

It was more of a promotional sale than just being a good movie. The 1hr special i saw on Sci-Fi locked me into going, then some of the promos on TV, but it was way oversell. It will be interesting to see if it makes back at least what it cost to make, i expect it will, but no guarantees... Typical start of summer bummer... a lot of summer movies are bummers for some reason...

To be sure! The CG was the main focus of the entire film which is one of the reasons why so many hate it (and I do agree). The only parts which I found the CG quite beautiful are the enviroment scenes (like the London backdrop and the Rome view) and I thought Dracula's brides were very well-done (honestly, some say the Brides were annoying, but I thought they were much better than Beckinsale's character...plus, the CG applied to them were very nice). *sigh* I can't stand Sommers for screwing up this film...it'd be much better if he decided to stick with one monster at a time or something (like Dracula in this one, Wolfman in another or hell, none at all). I wanted to love this film but it's hard to love it when there's so much stuff that isn't right or fits the mold. Damn you Sommers, damn you!!

Its true, he did fit too much, too fast, together. Roger Ebert gave it a thumbs up, so im not feeling too badly. Its not a terrible movie, just not worthy of the cost to make it. They made 54 mill the first weekend, so unless there is a noticeable uprising of moviegoers, expect the film not to take the world by storm. That may effect their decision to make some tv series on it... Who knows, whoever funded this thing has more money than they know what to do with...

Thanks for the Ebert news, goodman. I'm glad he gave it a thumbs up because as I said in my earlier, earlier post, I like the film but really hated some parts of it. Anyway, speaking of affecting the film, now I wonder if they'll make a "Van Helsing 2"? After all, I believe I read in magazine that Jackman has already signed on (made a contract) to do a sequel. Well, if so, hopefully they'll do a better job.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I did rent the game and am going to go play it shortly. Regardless of the reviews critics gave it -- which were generally a "pretty crappy movie" score -- I think it still looks worthy of my hard-earned $8.

Well, I bought the animated feature DVD (it was only $10) and it wasn't so bad, but the animation is terrible, honestly. And just like the actual film, the "wow" factor was the CG again. Anyway, the DVD also has bonus features of "Behind-the-Scenes" which were pretty cool. Seeing it, there are a lot of deleted scenes from the film (such as one from the masquerade ball) and other things.

One question I have: For those who've seen the film, did the film answer why Dracula cannot be seen in a mirror (the part at the ball, Dracula and Anna are dancing and they stop in front of a mirror, etc.)? I don't recall hearing anything about that in the film, unless I missed it.
