I'm not sure if the Ringu books are translated into English...though I think the comic might be coming over to the US...I'm not sure. I can check up on both of your questions though.

So sorry for double posting (it won't happen again!) but I had just finished watching Ringu and I haven't seen the American version yet. Here are my opinions:

To me, it's not scary at all. O_o;;; It's just suspenseful and uneasy...the only thing that surprised me is when

Sadako crawled out of the TV

but that's about it. There are many questions that are unanswered, so it makes the movie a bit confusing. Overall, it's pretty good though.

Red: I found out that the first book Ringu is going to be translated and released in the US in April. Since there are sequels, here are the names:

2) Spiral
3) Loop
4) Birthday (this final book will explain everything going through the series)

I'm not sure if the other sequels will be translated into English, but they just might. Hope this info helps.

YAYYYY... thanks meryl for going out of your way to find that out. I will be checking that out. I want to check out the movie, too, even if it is not particularly scary. I will have to see for myself.
