OK when it comes to true heavy metal bands I only know the oldies...
Motorhead: their slogan says it all:everything ****ing louder than everything else Slayer: it can't get more metal than this their cd reign in blood is the metal album for the older dudes Annihilator: only their first album "alice in hell" is a classic great guitar work by jeff wauters. Kreator: german based metal band got famous with their "extreme agression" cd Sacred Reich: one of the oldies from the bay area thrash scene check out the song "surf niqaragau" with the brilliant wipe out interlude. I can go on for hours for now I'll keep it with this.... I'll hope this suits the topic better....

I listen to Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, certain songs from Korn but wouldn't buy whole albums, same thing with Creed, and I don't have any Blink182 albums but I might get one of them.
I've heard negative things about Pantera from my uncle who practically just listens to the heavy metal stuff. |

In terms of drumming, there are very few who have (IMO) influenced rock and metal. Neil Peart - Rush: Whilst a lot of their songs could be considered nothing more than drum solos with a tune, technically the guy is astounding! Alex Van Halen - Van Halen: He managed to combine sheer technique with drumming that actually fitted the song - something which I feel Peart has alway lacked. Lars Ulrich - Metallica: Not the greatest drummer, but his triplet bassdrum work set the tone for a whole host of thrash drummer imitators. Cozey Powel (RIP) - many bands: His triplet work was something to hear - truly an evolutionist for rock drumming. John Bonham (RIP) - Led Zepplin: Invented rock/metal drumming. If you don't know what I mean, check out some of Led Zep's albums and prepare to be blown away! Without the aforementioned drummers, you wouldn't hear what you do today. But Bonham is the man - he invented rock/metal drumming... - S

I don't know Spank.I know a lot of zeps tunes and the drumming was there but it didn't really seem like something that blows me away, maybe i'm missing something. Also my comment above was also based on the fact that Bonham was never really recognized as a great in Zep.Mainly all you hear about is Page,Plant, and Jones.Never a mention or anything on Bonham.Owell guess I will have to go back to albums 1 and 2 again and listen to them again.

IMO if you wanna hear a drummer breaking the speedlimits and doing sick double bass and cymbal work take a listen to the following; pete sandoval ( early terrorizer and morbid angel), Gene hoglan ( former dark angel), Paul Bostaph ( former slayer). I've seen some drumtechniques tapes from mr.Bostaph and what that guy does as a warming up is unbelievable...great stuff to watch if you're into drumming.

No answers as far as mudvanyne huh.... oh well on with the show.
Out of all the (metal/Rock) music that you guys have... or have downloaded. which cds do you continualy keep coming back to? I mean... which is a complete album that you dont have to skip any songs in. The feeling that you get when you can just get lost in a series of songs and not worry where you are or what you are doing.... For me there is "alice in chains" dirt album. This Cd is such a full compilance of great music that flows w/ its own unique gruffness that just speaks to me... i love this cd for long trips where i dont ever have to change a track.
