so every disc that doesn't work in a PS2 has to be covered in "duct?" tape and look extremely stupid - nah, Sony should no better than to make us do DIY.

well i am a member of several forums and this seems to be a reacurring topic so i researched it

i found out that the earlier versions of the ps2 were rushed to release due to the huge number of awaiting fans this did not allow sony to work out all the bugs and soon problems started to arise first the blue disc's were actually lighter causing the ps2 to be unable to read them. Then the dvd problem came up because the earlier models were not equipped to handle exstensive dvd usage. So if you were one of those people who could not wait to buy it and rushed out to get it chances are you got a faulty model and will probably run it to these types of problems not saying everyone will some maybe lucky and run into absolutely no probs but the majority of people have and let me just say you are a lot better off buying a new one the repairs will probably cost you twice as much believe me i am also a victume of this. So in the end its not that the ps2 is a bad system its actually joe blow from sony who dropped the ball and did not catch any of this in time befor the release so shun the lazy person not the system

Well thats good. Atleast Sony fixed the problem. The one I had that broke down was an early model .

cleaning it is nercersarry
No doubt. I cleaned mine..just not every week. I would never clean a system every week with a vacume...id have to be pretty damned fond of it If I did.

"duct?" tape
Duct Tape is the proper name. Duct tape's original purpose was to..you guessed it, tape ducts used in heating systems. I know becuase im in the trade. People started reffering to it as Duck tape simply because its easier to say. Also a company started producing thier own brand of duct tape that they named "Duck" tape, complete with a cartoon duck on inside cardboard.

I am on my 3rd ps2. My first went through the same things. Loading times, not playing certain games or dvds, etc. I got a second one and it lasted about 4 months. It took a fall and decided to no play any games anymore. But after that I voided the warranty on my 1st ps2 and boy oh boy was it full of dust. I cleaned it out and it worked fine for a couple more months. I bought a third and it has worked fine.

The first models were of lesser quality as Tiger said. There have been at least 4 versions made. With that said though the first X-Boxs also had a flaw but not as serious as the first PS2s. But this should teach everybody to buy a warranty I did after my third one

yeah... I am on my 3rd ps2 and it still dont play anything... the dvd titles are good.. btu blue disks and ps1 games are a complete hassel to get them to play if at all..> So now i own 2xboxes and i am very happy w/ them..> the only prob i have w/ them is the controller ports being bastards sometimes but i do plug/unplug alot so i suppose that may be my problem... and i transport a lot... but i dont have nearly as much problems w/ x as i do w/ teh ps2...

I still love ps2 and all... .it just sucks when i have spent close to a grand on just one system.... Ugh... such is my lust for videogames i suppose

A GRAND on videogames?

Now thats kind of taking it too far...

If my PS2 were to break Id either get it fixed for FREE or it was in the bin and my games sold so I could just wait for PS3 - im sorry but thats the way it goes after all the care I gave mine (just a year to ps3 *fingers crossed*)

A grand on only ps2... I also own 2xboxes a GC, Dcast, Jaguar, SNES, 2NES, Genesis, GBA, GB, GBC, GBA SP, Collecovision, a 3do... and well yeah.. thats about it... a few of em arent operational anymore.. but i do own em and i got a ton of games for most of em... cept for the 3do and colleco.. those are too hard and too expensive...

OH well..i dont really know what that purpose was... I also await the next generation of consoles... Sony should rock

I've never had any problem with my PS2 except the door seems like its grinding against something when I open it but thats about it.

Ive spent a grand on just the games alone for my ps2... thats why I just went out and bought a new ps2 when mine died. I would only get like $200 back on all the games, so I figure that a trade in would be worthless.

OK, why do they do this? Mine does that (even though I take so much time) its like Sony's bolts or something whent skewhiff.

I actually moved mine slightly by switching it off when it was open and it stopped for a while begore clicking back to place in 3 openings...
