What did you think looked kiddie and ended up being cool?
A perfect example for me would be Grand Theft Auto 3. I remember seeing the box cover and thinking it looked too cartoonish, or "for kids" because I thought the cartoony style of the cover art represented the look and feel of the game itself. Needless to say, it was WAY cooler than most people thought it was going to be. Other examples would be;
Animal Crossing - https://www.animal-crossing.com/ - suprisingly addictive, even if you're normally into war games n such Munch’s Oddysee - https://www.oddworld.com/ow_frameset.html - great game, no matter what age or what type of gamer you are. Probably my favorite platformer ever. I-Ninja - https://www.ininjagame.com/ - took a chance on this one and I'm so glad I did. Another great platformer with some of the most fun moves in a platformer. |

I know that this isnt a game, but it was so great I thought it deserved mentioning. If you have ever seen "Happy Tree Friends" then you know what im talking about. This is the most demented cartoon I have seen in a while. go to Happytreefriends.com and check em out!!!!
P.S. If you are disturbed by any gruesome acts, don't watch this. It isnt for the light of heart. Seriously.

Grandia for the PS1 and Final Fantasy IX, both games turned out to be some of the best I have ever played.

Yea, definitley happy tree friends or retarted animal babies. They look like they are made for kids but they really arent. They are pretty gruesome and have adult themes.
Also the game called Chu Chu Rocket. Well... ok... so it is kiddy... but its still pretty cool. Or maybe I'm just a kid myself.

the title kind of implies that "kiddie" and "cool" can't possibly be the same thing . Just about everything "kiddie" I own is amoung my best stuff! Yoshi's Island, FF Tactics Advance, Kingdom Hearts, FFIX, SaGa Frontier 2, Golden Sun 1 and the Harry Potter books / Movies are classicaly "kiddie" on the face of things... yet a lot of them are 40 times more mature than the supposedly adult things I own. Games like Yoshi's Island and Kingdom Hearts betray their "kiddie" appearance by being quite hard. A game like FF Tactics isn't straightfoward enough to appeal only to kids...
Oh, and I love Pixar-Disney movies as well. Finding Nemo was just amazing!

Of course, anime. I mean, they are cartoons for crying out loud!

You might really like playing I-Ninja. It's not THAT gross, but it has that same kind of sick, gruesome humor. Anyone else played it? If so, you know what I'm talking about. |

(anybody there?) Did anyone get I-Ninja for GC yet? They're giving away free copies of Pac Man Vs. when you buy it for GC. I just read about Pac-Man Vs., it's a great multiplayer idea; One player (on the GBA) controls Pac-Man, while three other players (on the GameCube) will control the ghosts and attempt to track down Pac-Man. The Player who catches Pac-Man then becomes the dot-gobbler

My mom dragged me to see Monster's Inc. when it first came out... because she had free tickets. One of the best movies I'd seen in a looong time... easily on my top 20 list.
Ratchet and Clank.. damn, so glad I took into that one. Still need to get the second one....

I just wanted to say I-Ninja looked cool to me from the start, you could say I'm obssessed with Katanas or other curve-bladed weapons. I even changed my future advanced job in FFXI from Dark Knight to Samurai cause I realized how much I missed katanas.
