Something strange that is happening in my country is that people seem to be scared for every possible thing 24/7. We had a storm yesterday they had all these crisis hotlines and centres open for people to call, the telephone net was down sometime because of everybody calling. It's astorm for christ sake, these things do happen every once in a while but it was the first time that they had this public panic going on. It's like the media get a kick out of scaring people, nowadays people are scared for the environment, foreigners, terrorists, youth gone wild, european union, left wing political partys etc. etc. We had this awfull minister of refugee affairs(is that correct?) who wanted to close the border and kick a lot of people out who have been living here form more than 10 years. Finally she got kicked out of her job, but she is now the minister of youth affairs(don't know what the correct english phrase is) now all of a sudden there's a problem with the foreign youth in our cities and they're even talking about scenes like Paris may happen in the nearby future, now most people are scared of that. For god's sake can't people see what's really going on, when you keep people scared they will give the people with power even more power... We need to get some sensible people in our government FAST!

I'm thinking of depressing thoughts because the people whom my family sold our original restaurant to...the same "restaurant of hell" where my sister and I slaved away spoiling and waiting hand-and-foot to these stupid hicks and stupid Asians...is thinking about selling the restaurant back to us. My mother is estatic to return (because she was once loved and worshipped by all the stupid Asians...in other words, she'll be "Queen of the Campustown" again) and my father is also estatic to return (because he'll also be loved and become "Chef of Campustown" again). My sister and I are not happy...being at that place was one of the worst experiences. I cannot imagine, after being away for so long, returning back to that sh*thole and re-spoiling those people again: *snaps fingers impatiently at me* "Hey, can we have six dish?" "....Dish?" "YeAAAaahhhh....DIIIISH." "....Ohhh, you mean PLATE?" *scoffs* "Yeah....puh-late." "Uh...sure...but I thought I gave you two plates already...aren't there only two of you?" "Yeah, we want six puh-late....hello?" *looks at me like I'M stupid* My sister cannot imagine returning and also spoiling those *******s again: "Listen, do you think you can tell your dad to hurry with our order? See, we're in a rush...we're supposed to be at the movies at 7." "I would love to rush your order but you arrived at 6:30...you know all our food is made fresh to order and there are other people ahead of you..." "Yeah, but YOU don't understand...we're SUPPOSED to be at the movies at 7...so...uh...hello?" "....Sure, okay...I'll see what I can do." "Oh thanks...you're SO nice." *complete and utter sarcasm*. Oh joy....yeah, yeah, that's FUN. And if only these stupid mild incidents were the only situations that occur...thinking of these memories have gotten me so depressed it's not even funny.

That really sounds like hell Meryl, I would last 5 minutes in that place and then my fist would be in someones face. But it's easy to say for me, you probably would have done that years ago if it wasn't your parents restaurant. It always annoys the hell out of me when people are rude to the staff in restaurants people especially seem to get rude whenever they are on vacantion, it seems as if they look upon other people as inferior and that they're there to serve them and beslave themselves because THEY are on a holiday. Oh sorry I forgot you were god because you're on your holiday.

Thanks for the kind words, Berserker. I also have an extremely bad temper so it was very tough for me to not become enraged and beat the crap out of these people (specifically Asians) whenever they had an attitude with me.
As for customers being rude to restaurant staff, it's not like I don't understand some of the situations...getting a wrong order, waiting too long, etc. These are the general and expected situations in a line of business like this. But the problem comes in that my mother has spoiled these people for nearly 7 years (giving them free soy-sauced stewed eggs, not charging them for things like additional rice or toppings, and more). According to her and her Asian mindset, doing these "little" things gets people to come back and eat at our place. I'm sorry but I don't agree: if our food and our service complies with the standard rules of service and quality, then why do we need to, I dunno, bribe them to come back and eat at our place? Makes no sense to me. But no...my mother has done this and she's forced my sister to do the same. Ever since then, my sister, who takes the orders, had to literally bow down to these d*ckheads and give in to their every stinking request...some of them are so irritating it makes me feel like they’re purposely doing it just so they can see if we'll do it...and guess what? We do! As a result, these people have taken advantage of us and the setting is no longer a professional business-to-customer but more like slave-to-customer type atmosphere. These spoiled hicks and Asians come into our place with the attitude: We're giving you business so you pretty much OWE us...so you HAVE to comply with our every need. So, for example, if they call up and say "I'd like to reserve a table for 5 people. We'll be there at 6" and they end up coming in at 9 instead and staying way past our closing time just eating calmly and slowly and chatting for an additional HOUR after they're done eating, oh no, we’re not supposed to be pissed off because we "need" them. It's the fact that I do not want to become a slave again and experience all these bad situations that has traumatized me ever since I was 12 (that's the age I moved to this town and started working) that makes me want to jump off a cliff rather than return to this line of business again. And what's worse is if we do return, these same a**holes will be expecting the same royal treatment AGAIN...because in their minds, we OWE them for selling the restaurant to begin with! ARGH!

Can't you take up another job, so that you don't need to help in the restaurant? If you already have a nice job that pays well your parents can't force you to quit it right? Or is it something that's just expected from you and your sister? By the sound of it your not planning to go in the restaurant business yourself
So you need to think about other career options right? Maybe tell your parents that you are gonna explore your options by getting different kind of jobs?

Unfortunately, you're right: this is something that is expected from the both of us. And, even more unfortunate, if I try to get a job somewhere else around here, all the Asians (and Americans) will eventually run into me and thus, annoying rumors will spread: "Did you know that the girl is working at ____ and not at her parent's place?" "I know! I heard! I can't believe she doesn't want to help her parents anymore! What kind of child is she? My child would never abandon me at my time of need" "Hmmm, she wasn't brought up decently...you know she's was born in the States...") and so on. I don't need this crap either so whatever.

LOL, no offense taken...actually most Asian communities are like this, it's just slightly worse around here because the place is small and everyone does nothing but gossip for fun. Things like this will never change so it's either get used to it or get out, if you have a choice. Okay well I'm just blabbering now but thanks for the support anyways Berserker.

People can be really absurd. One hour ago my father got mad at me and started yelling saying I must think about my own business. All for an innocent question. Now he comes here and gives me money. What's going on? I'm clueless

There have been lots of animal poisoning cases in my neighbourhood. Cats and dogs in special way. Some birds too. The most horrible thing, apart from the wasted lives of those poor animals, is some people consider it normal. Two years ago I lost a cat because of a poisoned something my cat ingested. I loved that cat so much. She was so tiny. And beautiful. I loved her but could not protect her. I feel so very guilty when I stop to think abpout it, so I try not to. Evil people get annoyed so easily, it seems. But poisoning an animal because it barks or eats your flowers or because you think it's dirty to have it around. Humans are brainless idiots. |

When you damage your parents' car is it better to have it repaired without telling them anything, hoping they won't notice, or is it better to tell them everything and let them fix it?

also my evil side says how bads the damage.. cause if its nothing then they dont need to know anything. .. ... ... or you could play in the driveway when they're leaving and make pretend they hit you and make them feel horrible and they wont notice the damage was from another time.

After solitude and silence, a multitude of things.
#1 / Thoughts suddenly shattered by a beautiful blackbird flying into the window and that sudden horror that comes with death. Happily, he is just stunned. I've watched the family of blackbirds come and go over many years now, and they are a constant source of joy from my window. Tiny heartbeats, clawprints and every moment of life inbetween. #2 / I can't believe I'm flying to Toronto tomorrow. It seems to be the most pointless in escapist ideas whilst being the best idea I've had in some time. The expanding of barriers and attempts to free self from the past may bring happiness or reinforce isolation. Small excitements. #3 / the cities we passed were a flickering wasteland but his hand in my hand made them hale and harmless while down in the lowlands the crops are all coming; we have everything life is thundering blissful towards death in a stampede of his fumbling green gentleness you stopped by, I was all alive in my doorway, we shucked and jived and when you wept, I was gone: see, I got gone when I got wise but I can't with certainty say we survived ~j. newsom |
