Metalheads Only...

I figured that there were enough "Hip Hop/Rap" threads out there so i thought i would start one talking about favorite bands, up and coming talents that you have/want to check out, concerts... But all in Rock/ Metal. To prevent this from being spam, try and give a little description or something... Not just names.

((And if you know me at all i am not dissing the above(hip/rap). I am a huge Em fan; but there is enough out there about him.)

SO... Here are some of my personal favorites:
Mudvayne: Heavy metal, kind of like slipknot, cool lyrics and an awesome metal sound
Audioslave: Just saw them in Toronto last weekend. Awesome Cd... Even better in concert! For those who don't know the band is: Chris Cornell(soundgarden) and the rest of Rage against the Machine(minus Zach Roca)

I will see if anyone else joins in before i post more. I know there are def. rock fans on these forums so please let this flourish... or at least one response feel free to discuss bands too....

You Damn Right!! I love Korn! Out of the 90's, they are one of the few bands that made it. Not only are they hard ass rockers... But they constantly re-invent themselves. Every CD sounds different. What is your fav. Korn CD? Mine is probably "Untouchables" or "Life is Peachy"

Oh and again... Audioslave is awesome live! If you see Morello play its like a visit from God!

Indeed! They are great. My fave cd of there's was Follow the leader or Issues, I really like the songs on those ones. I didnt really like the Untouchables, in that one they kinda souned soft... but over all it was ok.

My fave bands:

Korn: they is good
Metallica: good sound, how could you not like it?
Slipknot: Nice and hard, well sorta, good for head bangin'
Iced Earth: vary similar to the sound of Metallica, just a different look on things. very nice, very nice, the only think is I cant find any of their cd's...

Yeah, i did kind of neglected issues... I liked it pretty well, i will have to get it out of the Korn Kase. When i first bought untouchables i hated it! I was so pissed that i pre-ordered it and everything! Then as i alwasy do, i re listened to it and fell in love with it. It is a little softer, but i like the whole mood that is set by it...

Definitely agree with the big dude on Slipknot! I love them! Its too bad they split! Corey and his buddy there had to go onto Stone Sour(IMO SUCKS...i miss Slipknot) What is your fav. Slipknot CD? MFKR, Self title(or 8761041362, or Iowa). Does anyone have slipknots MFKR? (mate, feed, kill, repeat) I will pay a hefty bounty for an original!

One of my Favorites, if not the most is Tool. They are a dynamic group that doesn't get the respect/credit they deserve! Their lyrics are deep, there music unmatched, and they just rock. My favorite CD is probably AENIMA, OPIATE, or Lateralus. Can't really decide, cause i love all of Tool's Cds. Is anyone else on here a big Tool fan?

Good, good thread.I freakin hate rap and we need some real music threads up.Anyways up with some of my favorite metal and standard rock bands and my thoughts on some of yours.

My Favs:

Metallica - Great band,Can't get away from there talent

Creed - A band that every one likes to call Christian.Owell who cares what people say, they freakin rock and kick ass LIVE.

Shadow's Fall - Kinda new to the business.Got the slipknot, pantera mixed sound.Kick ass music.

Murder Dolls - Kinda the same as above but there downright hardcore

Pantera - Who doesn't love dimebag and the rest of pantera. With Classics liek cowboys from hell and revolution is my name the band is dominate.

Mega Death - Classics just like ol metallica. Can't get away from mustaines guitar work and vocals.

12 Stones - Tight new band.Toured with Creed and they ruled live.

Breaking Benjamin - Another newer band along with 12 stones.Great sound for heavy rock

Disturbed - I dunno what kinda rock fan doesn't like these guys

A touch on your guys' bands.Korn - Man they have a nice sound.Very special in a way because nobody sounds like them.Audio slave and Soundgarden. Both kinda on the same page as bands that gotta a RATM sound to them which is acceptional. As a finishing note Slipknot is ok but i perfer corey's new band.Much more structed music than what he was doing in Slipknot.

SSSnake,
I agree that the music is a A LOT more structured in Stone Sour, I just don't know... I am not the one to judge really quick but from the little that i have heard, i like the fast head rush that is Slipknot.

12 stones is pretty good. Gotta love that sound! I def agree w/ Megadeath and Metallica, Pantera, and disturbed.(i am seeing Distrubed on the 24th at the blue cross arena in Rochester, NY(Taproot, and chevelle as well)) I used to like Creed alot, In My Own Prison, and Human Clay. I never really got into Weathered. The bullets song/video rocked hard though! Fav. Creed song probably My own prison or Faceless Man

Disturbed is my top favorite band. Some of my other favorites are KoRn, Godsmack, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and others I know I can't think of right now.

But, um, yeah. Rock on.

A few random fav's of mine Part I

Here's part one of a couple of my favs. I guess I'll progress gradually to different genres thru the other posts I'll put up:

Soundgarden: These guyz were one of my first favorite bands. They are musical geniuses and played with such chemistry that is unrivaled by most of today's more noticed bands. And what was most important about Soundgarden was their original sound. I love their raw and messy guitar behavior with such rythmic preciseness. It's just such a raww and angst-ridden dirty experience in their sound with layers of things to uncover within those riffs. Badmotorfinger is their "classic" album in my opinion.

Alice In Chains: Another one of my first favorite bands. Their sound is not as raw as Soundgarden's riffwise, but they capture a soulful evil in theyre combined harmonies with angsty moody guitars that creates a level of darkness bands still strive for today. It's a coccon of sorts that is deeper and more spacious on the inside of its shell than on the outside. The riffs have agonizingly slow underlying deathtraps within them, also.

Nivana: I don't feel quite as passionately about Nirvana as I do the first 2 in certain ways, but in other ways Kurt's vessel Nirvana which is an embodiment of absolute despair and something more human than we can quite handle is the very hand that reaches into your heart and pulls it into your stomach in dead weight as you listen to a man's testimony of everything you were (originally atleast) afraid to admit is closer to home than...

Stone Temple Pilots: These guys have really reinvented themselves with their last three albums (which I love just as much,) but their first 2 albums are the "classic" ones. "Meatplow" is a personal favorite song and is mud-like grunge at it's finest. Dean Deleo's messy solo's are almost as orgasmic as Kim Thayil of SOundgarden's, but not quite and of course they are 2 very different bands although alike in some ways. I guess I just love messy guitar riffs and solos blending into something this powerful.

This next band you could argue helped move away from "grunge" though some of their best earlier stuff resembled it arguably:
Tool: Tool is dark and twisted in a way i can't quite describe. It's twisted in a mature way thats light years beyond a lot of bands with so many gimmicks. The music speaks for itself. The rythmns are filled with such dark groove and the vocals are ingenious and entrancing. These guys have such complicated structures to their songs that they manage to pull of into something that compliments itself in every way as a whole everytime. It is awe-inspiring.

OK here's a band that's hard to categorize cuz its not quite from the grunge era and its not quite nu metal either (whish is probably for its own good):

Deftones: First of all, Chino Moreno's vocals display a kind of dementedness, energy, deep feeling and emotion, love, etc. in an extremely unique way that is very original. The band's riffery and sounds and rythmns produce such energy it's scary. Energy and anger combined with beauty is what puts these guys ahead.

I will be back....expect to see more obscure bands and also another fav genre of mine known as Black Metal and a few bands in between before then. Up Next: EMPEROR, Peccatum, Dimmu Borgir and others.

_RED_ stuff

1) Tool - I've been a fan since ÆNEMA was around, they're dark... almost Satanic at times, lyrics are really inspiring and though-provoking. And Maynard JK can scream and scream real good. Adam Jones is one of my favorate Guitarists ever, I mean listen to what the man can do with that guitar! It's really quite amazing to here Paul's Bass (Which, btw is what instrument I play) but a few years back Paul left them. So sad.

2) Disturbed - Wow. These guys just kind of came in the scene unannounced with Stupify but it was Breathing that REALLY got me into them. Fuzz is one of the baddest Bass players ever, and Dave's got a great voice. Even if his vocal chords are burnt from screaming "Ooh-WHAA!" too much. (I read that in Guitar Magazine not to long ago). They're newest Album, BeLIEve (I had to point that out) is really really Religious, which is kind of cool but awkward at the same time. BTW so people know - that image on the CD cover/guitars is really this :

-Pentagram
-Catholic Cross
-Islamic Crescant
-Some Star t hat I can't recognize.

3)Slipknot - Not a whole lot to say about these guys other than that they're a HUGE band, great music, great sounds. And dark lyrics.

4) Supprised no one has said this yet - MushroomHead - Like Slipknot and Tool put together, they're single Solitare Unravelling is both twisted and light. It sounds evil but it's not. Gotta love them.

5) Dius - I'm going to be so pissed if no one knows who these guys are. Eddie E. is a badass Bass player, Steven has a nice voice, and can play lead guitar quite nicely. Cameron on drums = nice, and Micheal G. on Guitar is real nice sounding. Wait. That's my band. We count though.

I am glad to see a lot of Tool fans on here. They are such a great band. Actually great isn't even appropriate for a band like this. They have one of the most unique ways of making CD's. The band and Maynard split up and make the music and lyrics seperately and yet somehow it brings forth a dynamic sound and flow that is unparraleld. All of their CD's almost sound like one big song, I can think of no one else that is as good as these guys... I just hope they can get their own label soon enough(after 4 more cds! ) so they can bring out more talent on the same level as their own.

Off of Tool for a sec... Which, if any, of the Mudvayne CD's did you like better? End of all things to come, or L.D.50? Not counting their other one that was just released from the early days(haven't gotten it yet).
What is some of your guys favorite songs by a rock band? Parabola by Tool is an excellent track! I will prob post more later.... Keep em' commin!

"I'm Afraid of Americans" by David Bowie and Trent Reznor (of NIN) is a classic and I advise you download/buy it! NOW! :>

(Speaking of which, does anyone know where I might find a downloadable (without Kazaa) music video of that song? I've seen a quick snippit of it and it looks MEGA cool!! I want!)

These aren't really heavy metal, thought without most of these old farts heavy metal wouldn't be what it is today:

-David Bowie (as mentioned above)
-The Rolling Stones
-Led Zepplin
-Black Sabbath
-AC/DC
-Queen
-Creedance Clearwater Revival
-Foo Fighters

I'll add to this as I remember more.

Oh yes!! Lets not forget the classics! I also have been delving into the wonderfull euphoria that is Led Zeppelin. I agree w/ you Gad... Music always has roots, and we do need to aknowledge them! I def agree w/ all on your list gad.
Renzor did a song w/ bowie?? That is awesome....
Which brings me to my next point. Nine Inch Nails. This is a great band that will live forever in my head. The rythms and chaotic lyrics that they spew have staying power and can entrance for hours. Good call by(cant remember) for alice in chains! Dirt is one of my fav. albums! I wake up to it every morning.. its on my alarm that i have, dem bones is wakin me up every a.m. Its a shame Layne is gone Same w/ a lot of other rock talent.... snuffed out too early.

Yup! Bowie has done songs with plenty of people on the new (and old) rock scene!

Trent Reznor - "I'm Afraid of Americans"
John Lennon - "Fame"
Dave Grohl - plays guitar on their cover of Neil Young's "I've Been Waiting for You"

Plus he recently toured with Moby, Busta Rhymes, Carl Cox ad Digweed in the Area:2 tour!

And more, but I can't remember 'em right now! Shame on me, I know!

Goooo Bowie!

Oh yes Foo Fighter's are awesome...Dave Grohl is the f'in man, especially with his great drumming skills with Nirvana and now Queens of the Stone which I also like a lot...I'm also big into Smashing Pumpkins.

Speaking of classic rock bands we can't forget that good ol southern rock that is Skynyrd...

Free Bird

All I have to say...
