I know there was a thread about this not all that long ago, but that thread was really old, and because of this... I don't think many members paid much attention to it. So, how about a new one, eh?
We're still midways summer, so there are plenty of good books that we can get in under our belts before heading off into the hustle and bustle that follows September. So, simply... are there any books that you want to read? What are some books that you've read and would recommend? Also, which, if any, books are you currently reading? As for me, as soon as I find my glasses... or get new ones ( ), I will go back to the books I was reading:The Sound of the Mountain by Yasunari Kawabata and Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus by John Grey. These two, I must admit, are pretty interesting. ^^ Come on, guys... any juicy books out there we should get our little paws on? Share here!

Actually, I haven't had really much interest in reading this summer. I prefer going to the beach or playing sports. I don't really set aside time to read. My friend said he had a couple books on mythology that I would like to read. I'm also a fan of the Dragonlance series, so I might pick some more of those up. Maybe when the weather up here gets colder, I'll spend some time inside.

I recommend:
Ten Thousand Sorrows ~ Elizabeth Kim If you managed to read 'A Child Called It' then you should be ok. A harrowing true story about a young Korean War Orphanage and her fight for survival. Such a sad story but I couldn't put the book down. Piggle ![]() x x x x

I've read a sort of scientific study on serial killers, but it's translated in dutch and I don't know the english title, pretty horrific stuff. I'm currently reading Anabolic Primer by Gerard Thorne (another study book about supplements don't bother reading).
If you're into horror you might want to check out some works of Barker or Herbert both are excellent writers. I'll post more when I think of any.

I am currently reading three books:
World Like Mist by Yu Hua The Silent Cry by Kenzaburo Oe The First Man by Albert Camus The first book is a collection of novels, the last one is a sort of work-in-progress autobiographical story, but the author died before completing it. Before I was reading Fury by Salman Rushdie, Still Lives by Natsuki Ikezawa and some theatrical pieces by Giovanni Testori (but this last one doesn't really count, since it was for an exam, mainly). Next books I will read... I don't know. Probably more than one at the same time. I have this intriguing biography of Houdini that I received as gift. This one will be one of the next books I will start after I finish those I am reading now. I have many books to read at the moment, but I am also planning to buy something new very soon. I am a book addict! Mena, Kawabata is an amazing author. I know the book you mentioned in your post, I did read it two years ago I think. He has great sensitivity and his books are always filled with a deep sense of beauty and melancholy. He was a follower of aesthetics, and one of the things I admire more is his ability in describing even the most tough, sorrowful or gloomy aspects of life and human relations (with other humans or nature, mostly) in a delicate and graceful way. The book of Kawabata I prefer is The House of Sleeping Bauties. |

Last week I read 'Bright Young Things' + 'Dead Clever' by Scarlett Thomas. Both were absolutely brilliant escapism from my job.
Now, I'm bookless. There are a few I want but can't get and couldn't afford anyway.

Well since im in high school its required to read a book during the summer. Usually I get upset and dont want to read but the book I have this year is one I love. Its called Runaway Jury by John Grisham. Im sure some of you have seen the movie but as some people say the book and the movie are two different things. Im halfway done with the book and so far so good. Its very interesting, it makes you want to read more and see whats going to happen next. I have seen the movie and already its missing some things from the book. Once I finish reading it im going to see the movie the week before school so it can refresh my memory. In the first week of school the students are going to be tested on the book. Hopefully I'll remember everything and pass.

Currently reading: Battle Royale. fun book, as much as the movies. Pretty much a book you'd like to read when you want something fun and long enough to keep you occupied for some time, but without being stressed or frustrated.

My summer reading list looks like this:
S. Gibbons - Cold Comfort Farm D.H. Lawrence - The Rainbow M. Webb - Precious Bane A. Proulx - Postcards F. Scott Fitzgerald - Tender is the Night F. Scott Fitzgerald - The Great Gatsby --- Hemingway - Short Stories Faulkner - Go Down Moses Doctorow - Ragtime De Lillo - Underworld Everything below the line is optional, but recommended. I'll try to read as many of them as poss, but they seem pretty rare...
