"Nintendo is set to file suit against Sony next week, declaring that the Playstation brand, and all of the profits made by Sony from it's sale, belong to Nintendo. While reading over the original contract between Sony and Nintendo (Sony were to make a CD drive for the Super Nes, entitled the Playstation), a lawyer for Nintendo noticed some key wording which showed that it was Sony's responsibility to make the drive, and that they broke the contract, not Nintendo, like initially believed.

According to sources, Nintendo is almost assured a victory, gaining all the profit's made by Sony off the Playstation since its introduction in 1996. Even if Nintendo do not win outright, they are guaranteed the rights to the Playstation name, and Sony will have to immediatley change the name of their console."

This is what will make Nintendo systems go flying from the shelves people. The "Nintendo Playstation," people won't know the difference, unsuspecting customers everywhere will be buying Nintendo, thinking that it's Sony. Sony is in a world of hurt."

Ok thats the CRAZIEST news I have ever heard. But one thing.

How does that LOOK like MarioMegaSonic?... ..... I am not getting that.!.

And people knew that Nintendo and Sony were to make a system togather, but it didn't work out as Nintendo wanted it to be a system that has "Cartridges" and Sony wanted it to have "Compact Disks" on it.

And now they are acting on it?.... I am kinda lost.....

the name playstation was purchased from yamaha by sony management for an undisclosed amount of money.. if there was ever an indication that nintendo is hurting for money this is it.

Something like this would be splatered all over the news channels and i have yet to see anything on it. These are two rather big companies, you hear about the little companies on tv so you should see this too. I somehow just can't believe the story.

If you are going to post news, maybe some ground rules should be put up.

1. It has to be true, not just a rumor.
2. A link should be put up directly to the article.
3. The place of the article should be properly credited for it.

i bet nintendos hurting for money if this is true, and i hope that they dont win because its a screwball deal. even though the psx was supposed to go on snes and they backed away doesnt mean that nintendo should get the whole thing. its like making a stereo receiver for the tv and a company decides to make a cd player to go with the receiver then later the company that was going to make the cd player makes there own cdplayer/receiver. i bet this is a rumor though.

can we post rumors and just tell the people that it is a rumor because sometimes they can be true and its nice to find out ahead.

A rumour is spreading all over the internet about details of the Nintendo Boom/Megaton announcement...

It goes something like this... Apparently Nintendo are set to file a law suit against Sony. As you may know, The Playstation started out life as the SNES CD, but after Nintendo announced a deal with Phillips, it all broke down. Not wanting to waste all the money and effort, Sony released the console as a stand alone machine, the Playstation.

Rumours say that Nintendo think they have a claim to the Playstation brand and all the money Sony have made from it, because it was Sony's responsibility to produce the SNES CD, which they didn't (for obvious reasons).

If this is true, it clearly means big news for Nintendo and Sony. Of course, it probably isn't true. We can't stress enough how little evidence there is to back up the rumour. So don't get your hopes up.

There is an image floating around that we will link to below, not hosting it on Cube Europe itself obviously (yes, we are scared of Nintendo).

Personally, I find this very hard to believe. After Sega dropping out of the hardware market, Microsoft entering it, and buying Rare, nothing can be dismissed. This is even more out there than all of those put together, however, and not likely to be true at all.

The image itself, nice image, and when the same technique was used on the mosaic teaser Sega released before announcing Sonic, it was true. Thing is, even if that is the real original image, how exactly does it support the rumour? All it hints at is Mario, Sonic and Mega Man all on the same console, all high quality games, which we already know to be true.

Well, I guess we will all find out about the announcement when the time comes. Until then, have fun speculating.

I haven't seen anything about this on any of the news sites I visit. My first thought is that it's nothing more than a rumour. I can't see how anyone would award Nintendo all the profit SONY has made from PS.

After all, PS was not an existing brand when it first came out. So the brand identity that is now associated with PlayStation was built by SONY. I personally don't see how this could happen at all - but then again, the law can be twisted in many ways.

I am still having a hard time believing it cause none of those links have any evidence either, they are all just talking about it like they are here.

All the links are of forums and the one that is not a forum has a link to a forum to get its information.

I guess i just won't be convinced until I see it on CNN.
