remakes for the PSX specific FFs have been largely rumors, but have been announced more than once by square - but always as "on-hold projects". when they get round to starting them is anyone's guess: but you can pretty much expect to wait until around 2 years after the FF7 remake comes out


or put far more simply, in about 5 years time. perhaps? (if ever...)

Speaking of which, having seen the models of Aerith, Yuffie, Cid and Cloud in Kingdom Hearts, I really want them to remake VII... I ain't gonna hold my breath however...

I think they will remake it sometime in the future, but then theres also the possibility of FFVII-2 that was mentioned recently. Give it a few years, and im sure we'll hear somthing about remakes (Square of remade just about every FF before now ^_^)

I wouldn't be surprised if they remade them for the Gamecube rather than the Ps2. I think it depends on their profit margin over the next year. Its entirely possible they will be remade, but according to recent news it looks like Square staff are more willing to work on a sequel to Final Fantasy VII than remake the game.

lol! anyways... FFVIII stands just about the worst for a sequel: Its not phenomenonally popular (like FF6, FF7 or alledgedly FFX) and it ended too well rounded. The only thing we were never told (but given a distinct "wink-wink-nudge-nudge" about) was Laguna being Squalls dad, but you can't exactly base a game on that ^_^. Consequently, theres no real benefit in doing a sequel, because the characters aren't really a re-useable commodity... they may as well create an entirely new world in that respect.

Just for the sake of it, i'd say that the following are games that could be remade:

- FF4 (centered around Kain, who never really fitted into the "lives happily ever after brigade")
- FF6 (so many characters... i'd go with relm's "where's my daddy?" quest as a starting point though... [ok... so FFVI - The Power Within is already doing that...])
- FF7 (any game that needs an essay to explain itself to most people deserves a sequel)
- FFT ("Tactics Advance doesn't count". I hear too many cult Tactics fans whineing about that. It would seem that they need a "proper" sequel. And a GBA remake.)
