One Piece and Gunslinger Girl licenced

according to this (https://www.4kidsentertainmentinc.com.../2004-0608.pdf) press release, One Piece has been licenced by 4kids entertainment in the US, Canada, UK, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, giving them rights over Merchandise and TV distribution of the anime. Personally, I don't know who 4kids are, but i've heard rumblings that they're not all that hot. The english dub will probably be awful, but when isn't it? ^^. I've seen just two episodes of One Piece but it seems very fun and original

Now that it's liscenced, at least more of us will know just what it's all about

Also, FUNimation have picked up the rights to Gunslinger Girl. It joins Full Metal Alchemist on their list, but I've not seen it ^_^ (Source: https://animeuknews.net/)

i'm not too fond of 4Kids either. They are harbingers of retarded shows like pokemon and such....

I don't know how they plan to release Gunslinger Girls for kids. Not that it's overly violent but it's more of an adult story from what I've heard and seen.

That's too bad about One Piece though. I read a lot of the manga and watched a bit of the anime and it was pretty good. The problem with dubbing anime that's sort of 'crazy' into English is that it always looses the original charm of it being in Japanese.

Plus, if they alter the script in One Piece to appeal more to kids I don't think it'll be as good.

As if enough great animes weren't already getting butchered by TV companies. Like, hmmm...Detective Boy Conan being renamed as "Cased Closed" on Adult Swim.

Only now, after having watched enough One Piece episodes to know how good it is, do I realise how deeply tragic this news is ^^

I hear that it's already appeared on US TV? Isn't it really heavily edited?

Yah, the editing they did on One Piece is horrible. They made so many stupid changes too, like instead of a Rice ball given to Zoro, they give him cookies. After they were stepped on, Luffy still gave Zoro the cookies like if they had never been stepped on. Also in one episode the thing they used to replace a gun was horrible. It really sucks.
