Howl's Moving Castle US Theater Date
June 10 is the date when Miyazaki, Hayao/Studio Ghibli's new film, "Howl's Moving Castle" (Hauru no Ugoku Shiro) will be released in theaters in the US. *jumps up and down in excitement*
Let's all just pray the movie will released in a lot of theaters this time around instead of independent theaters like "Spirited Away." The English dub voice cast are: Howl: Christian Bale Old Sophie: Jean Simmons Young Sophie: Emily Mortimer Witch of the Waste: Lauren Bacall Calcifer: Billy Crystal Madam Suliman: Blythe Danner The US version features two different voice actors to play as Sophie, unlike the JP version. Release dates in other countries as are follows: (taken from Nausicaa.net [url=https://www.nausicaa.net[/url]) USA - June 10, 2005 Brazil - July 1, 2005 Germany - September 1, 2005 Sweden - September 2005 Belgium - 2005 Israel - 2005 The Netherlands - 2005 UK - 2005 Anyone as excited as I am to see this? Man oh man, I wish they could just release the R2 DVD, I mean the film has been out in theaters in Japan in Nov 2004, the DVD should've been out by now.

I'm really looking forward to this. There's a very real chance that Howl's will get into mainstream cinemas: Diana Wynne Jones is a British Author and her books have been extra hyped up recently: a film adaptation of Howl's by the director of Spirited Away (which was placed 7th in a UK poll about "the UK's top 100 Cartoons" - you should have seen the stuff it beat... and the crap it was beaten by!) will have some genunine selling power in this country. I'd quite realistically go and see this movie twice if that happened: take my parents to see the dub in the cinema, take my anime loving friends to see the subtitled version at an arts cinema. I'm particuarlly hyped because I finally found someone stocking Laputa and I watched that yesterday... I've now watched all the pitiful selection of Ghbili titles available in the UK (Mononoke, Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away, Grave of the Fireflies, Castle in the Sky). They're all brilliant films and I want more!!! I wonder what the 6 'Extravaganza' films will be... Probably those five plus the Cat Returns if they're feeling stingy, but I'd love to see at least Mononoke and Kiki on the big screen...

I think it's so stupid how this film, which is based on a British book, is probably the last to be shown in the UK. It's just so ridiculous.
I had very, very fortunate luck the other night. My sister had taped this "NHK Song Concert" on the Japanese TV channel NHK (my parents wanted to subscribe to Taiwanese news channels, so we decided to get the Japanese station). This concert is where folk singers (enka) come on and sing songs and perform. As a special guest, that night, they asked Chieko Baisho (the voice actor for Sophie in the film) to come on and sing the main theme called Sekai no Yakusoku (The Promise of the World). Oh man, what another great song by Joe Hisaishi. It has such a melancoly melody and it was just great.

this deserves one big "?"
um, I couldve been drunk (but I dont drink so I couldnt have been) but I'm sure Howl was given in NY already not an official release of course, but theres a movie theater that usually puts things out regarding anime (Vampire Hunter D, the CB movie) all ahead of schedule. A guy handed me a flyer for Howl with a discription and a pic of the moving castle and this was months ago. The anime name was on the marqee (sp?) already so I'm sure they were giving it at the time |
