Has anyone here been hearing about the blackouts all over the east coast of North America?
It happened yesterday afternoon initially (Aug.14) and power is slowly being restored all over. Here in southern Ontario, in Guelph where I live we got it back at midnight last night and so far it's been stable, but all over the place there are still roving blackouts as the grid systems are getting fixed. Other members here from the affected areas probably got knocked out too. Apparently the cause was supposed to be a lightning bolt that struck some power plant in New York state, causing near overloaded systems to get pushed over the top or something to that affect. Anyway, it's all pretty strange over here at the moment and I was wondering what the outsider (or insider if any others can get on their puters) perspective was on the whole situation. Personally, I think it's a pretty good thing in the grand scheme of things as we might start to consider our heavy usage of electricity a little more carefully in the future, knowing about this sort of thing. ![]() EDIT: I just noticed another thread on this as well. +
