Gackt Camui

I've read Tidus and Squall are inspired from this JRock singer, really famous in Japan. Is it true? I can see some resemblances, but I'd like to know if it's only a rumour or if it's for real.

I don't know for sure either, but it seems reasonable to assume that from those photos.

I can't say that I know if Squall and Tidus was designed around him, but I can easy see why people would think they were.

hmm... I believe I've seen somthing similar myself: though I'm not sure I agree with Squall, Tidus is definatly quite like Gackt... but then, at best it will only be an influence to design, so perhaps Squall does look like him as well...

Seems possible; especially if you compare the first pic to Tidus- they share a lot of similarities.

I'm sorry if I may offendsomeone, but Gackt seems like a transvesti to me. There's some resemblances between Tidus and him, but Tidus at least looks like a man.

Indeed. And he/she could perfectly do Kuja's role if there was a FF9 movie as well.

The fact Squall and Tidus are inspired by the famous Japanese singer Gackt Camui is more than a rumour. It's been said also by FFX creators that they took inspiration from him, or at least I remember they told they thought about him.

Anyway, Frozen, you should look at other JRock singers or musicians to understand why Gackt looks like that. It's a common style for Japanese rockstars to dress like womens or stuff like that, and people don't find it upsetting. It's just a fact of different culture. And Yes, Kuja was also inspired by some other jrocker, so it's not a big surprise the style is more or less the same.

You got it right, Frozen (kinda). Gackt Camui was from a JRock visual band called Malice Mizer and I've been told that Kuja's character was inspired by Malice Mizer themselves for their feminine look. They're really popular in Japan, so many feminine characters you see in videogames and anime were inspired by them or other similar bands.

Well, transvesti-looking queer singers/artists is something that becomes more and more common everyday... it does not surprise me. I just find them disgusting, I can not help it. But yeah, it's a cultural thing so i must be respected

But too bad that they inspire important characters in such disturbing fashion....... but well, that's just IMO .

I think this guy is quite a good looking one

and I can see the resemblances you mentioned. Tidus is more muscular though, so I'd say that his face looks like Tidus' one, but his body is more like Squall's.
