I just now saw the movie!

Hey I just saw the movie a couple days ago. did it have any thing to do with any of the games? I've only played Final Fantasy X so I don't know. The movie was pretty good but FFX was way better!

PS How can I get one of those awsome sigs?

No, the movie wasn't based on any of the games. The title "Final Fantasy" was mainly for name recognition. They were hoping to draw in people who hadn't played the games as well as people who had, and failed miserably. Not that the movie wasn't good, but maybe they shouldn't have called it Final Fantasy.

Yes, the movie was based on FFIX, just like Zidane goes to another planet. And man, that movie scared me!

No, the movie was not based on FFIX...

The theme of FF: The Spirits Within is the gaia, and the effects of hurting said gaia. You will find this theme is many FF games, but more obviously in FFVII and in FFIX.

The movie shares themes that are common in many FF games - hence why it was called Final Fantasy.

By the way, I actually rate the movie - I enjoyed it a lot.

you haven't watched it. have you? FFIX is set in a medieval time for starters. TSW is set in the future. On this very planet (unless New York happens to be on any other planet anyone knows of). The only similarity between the two, is the use of the word "Gaia", though in a completely different context (in FFIX there are two worlds, Terra and Gaia, one was dying, and is now frozen in time, with only souless "vessels" oocupying it, which has very little to do with the "return to the planet" idea of the movie, and the one game in the series that certainly has the Gaia theory in it : FFVII)

There are no characters and very few elements that made the cross-over. The only exeption would be Sid, (who is usually "Cid") as the name (the name alone however) appears in most games in the FF series, after FFII. The don't even have moogles or chocobos

As for what I thought about it, I'd err to the side of liking it, but I'm a little indeciesive. Everything seems pretty average with the movie. Charaters, Storyline, Acting, Dialouge except for the Graphis which are simply incredible, and the Soundtrack which is, to be fair, pretty damn crap (but then it wasn't Uematsu anyway)

I loved the film, and it definetly links most with FFVII, which is probably why I liked it so much.

The movie was ok, I liked it and I'm not ashamed to admit I liked it. It was a quite good sci-fi movie IMO. The themes are the ones of many FF games, but with not direct connections with any of them. It's like telling that FF games are connected: they're not directly connected, but they share they same ideas and themes. That's why I think it's not a surprise they decided to call it Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. It's clear that is not a chocobo, a moogle or stuff like that to create a connection with the videogaming series.

Well, what can I say...... definitley The Spirits Within has no links with any game. Don't speak BS. The only things it has it that they use some names for things (like Gaia) and the seven spirits thing, and some other unrelevant stuff.

The movie was great regrding animation, effects, music, and art. Even the plot was not too bad. But I may say, it had absolutely nothin, NOTHING to do with Final Fantasy, at all. It was just like an action, science fiction movie. It did not have the basic elements of FF, not in the plot, not in the "ways". Something without magic and/or without GF's, Aeons, Summons, etc. can not be called Final Fantasy. And the enemy..... was not even an enemy, just an accident.

I mean, it was absolutely disappointing from that point of view. I'm not saying it sucks, but it's just not Final Fantasy at all. I wish they made a second one, with the real elements of Final Fantasy, which will definitely delight the fans, that is, if well developed (I watched Final Fantasy Unlimited and it sucked, because they twisted such elements I talk about, and I found it disappointign as well)
Just think about it, imagine the same events of FF 7 , with the graphics of that movie. With the same plot and all that. Wouldn't that be the world's hottest §hit?

And if you didn't understand what I meant, read what the_artist said, and you'll understand better what I mean.
