Oh right... you mean the North American version . Well, 1 clue is given in what I already said. Europeans and Americans have been succesfully playing the Japanese version of FFXI since its release, so your locality isn't going to be a problem. Hardware may be though. I'm unsure whether the US Network Adapter and US HDD will be compatable with the EU playstation 2s. I'm pretty sure that Those playing the Japanese version had to have all Japanese hardware, and the same would be true of the US version - you're likely to need a US PS2, HDD and Network Adapter.
If you're that desperate get the PC version. PCs don't have none of the regional lock-out poo - the only barrier may be registration, which may require you to provide a valid North American address (it was the same with the JP version).
