I think it's those type who have their hobby/obsession consume them which is why a majority dislike these type of collectors. Like for example, I was channel-surfing and I came across this show on MTV called "True Life" (or something) and they were talking about embarassing parents. This one kid's dad is so obsessed with Star Wars that he actually believes he's a part of the whole thing. He collects Star Wars stuff like crazy and that's all he talks about. He even started crying when he was talking about the moment when he first saw Star Wars when he was a kid. Now, to me...that's kinda annoying and scary at the same time.
