3. Strategy - After Platform Games, Strategy games were my first type of game I tried. To be honest, a lot of popular Strategy games really don't do anything for me anymore, so RTS / TBS doesn't really get very high on my list. But certain games of old (and one series of new) keep the Genre in my top 3.
Favorites Examples: Homeworld (my fave PC game of all time), Homeworld Catacylsm and The Settlers series.

2.5 Strategy Role Playing - Two of my fave genres, combined to make very good games. Shame about the rarity of the genre
Favorite Example: Final Fantasy Tactics

2. Role Playing - Best for Stories, they're usually held back by questionable and linear gameplay. Some of the most intriguing stories every written are surely of the RPG genre.
Favorite Examples: Final Fantasy VI and VII

1.5. First Person Role Playing: - My two favorite genres combined usually make games that make you think, plan and then shoot like Hell. Usually somthing to do with Warren Spector...
Favorite Examples:System Shock 2 and Deus Ex

1. First Person Shooter - of all genres, it seems like you get the most control here. FPSs are usually the ones in which skill and lightning fast reflexes help (believe me, a 28k modem severely limits your capacity for the later one). The modern FPS is also one with a good enough story to rival that of the traditionally Story-heavy RPG genre. Wanton Violence is also very fun.
Favorite Examples: Half-Life (and Scientist Whacking Mod, Science & Industry!), Unreal Tournament / 2003
