You see, in the edited version [in this case, the TV version], any part considered unsuitable for a younger audience, is cut or edited. In other words, any [for any anime on TV] sexual scenes, overly vulgar dialogue, and excessively gory anime is most likely to get cut out.
So in turn, lets say you have a ninja [in this case, me, of course] cut through the head of someone like Digimortal, no blood would come out !
The major difference is that you aren't getting the total product, meaning that you're only viewing seems "proper". I suppose this is okay since you're watching them through television, but in some instances, even the DVD versions are edited, and that's just wrong.
And for a side note: episode 14 was completely cut out off the Kenshin TV series on CN.
