Nope he did not most the of the greats didn't take lessons they developed there own style instead of being taught someone elses.Notice that Van Halen sounds different from Creed and Metallica cause all the guitarists are self taught.Hetfield,Hammet,Halen,Tremonti all have distinct styles of playing.
