Well, my sister (who previously worked on the FF movie) told me that there was a little story about it. During the late 1980's or something, Square was at a financial crisis. So when making a new RPG for Nintendo, they thought this game would be their last. Thus came "
Final Fantasy".
And surprisingly, it sold really well and has become what it is today.
