Yes it is sad and depressing, but nowadays that's the only way to sell music and become famous, it seems.

Personally, though I don't listen to rap, I don't appreciate the whole "battle of the rappers" because it's just dumb, IMO. The whole dissing people off, the fights and all....it's silly and also fake to me.
Why fake? Because since rappers have an image to keep (like being tough, badass, etc.) they start these little grudges and fights for no reason. And it could be all set up, just to keep fans intrigued and have something to talk about. I mean, since these rappers are idols to many people and the people imagine that the guy is their perfect image of "coolness, toughness, etc." these guys feel pressured to maintain the image. And in order to do so, they pull stunts like these and amuse their fans.
Just sharing my opinion, don't wanna get flamed at.
