Pu the Owl is on a distinguished road
Every Final Fantasy game is good as it is IMO, and it doesn't need a sequel. The ending of some of them let you think there could be a sequel, but for example only because not all main characters die is it really necessary to make the story go on? Or create a new story based on the same characters?
The greatest part of Final Fantasy game are created only for the story you see in the game, and they're balanced because the have a certain hero and villain plus a number of secondary characters. If you defeat the villain, what's the point in making another game with same heroes but different bad guy? Or if the main character ended his quest/story/life (or whatever) why making another game? Or if the mystery behind the plot is revealed, why creating a new mystery for the same game?

In general, I don't like the idea of making sequels out of every single successful game. Some games are created with the precise intention of having sequels, some others are not.
