I'ts because of the pose: his head is supposed to be positioned near the shoulder, like if he's leaning on the edge of something, I think. In fact you can see one of the shoulders being slightly up and the other in normal position.

Exactly! He's supposed to lean on the edge of a ship (don't know if it has a technical name, because I'm not a sailor ), so if he looks odd, it's because the pose it's not very usual ^^;;
