When you can't stand someone, how do you react?

I usually don't say to someone directly I hate or I can't stand him/her, but I let them know in a subtle way, like not talking too much or clearly looking annoyed.
I know it's better to let others know what you think about them clearly, but this is not always possible, because also when you don't like someone you have to care for his/her sensibility, paying attention to not hurt their feelings. So, being very clear and telling how much you can't stand someone can be very bad for the other person and depressing maybe.
Maybe I care too much, but that's what I think.
