well there are 2 characters you can play with.
depending on which character you choose, the story will be a bit different from the other.
You can play as rue, or mint.
Rue is a person who is searching for something called a relic, which was made by a powerful aeon a long time ago. He searches for it, because he wants to bring a person who is close to him back to life. He has the ability to change into monsters he`s defeated, and use their attacks.
Mint is an ex-princess who is looking for the relic because she wants to take over the world. She got kicked out of the castle because she was so rude and obnoxious. she also wants to get revenge on her sister for becoming princess instead of her. She has the ability to use various kinds of magic.
The two characters do meet and they both that part in each others stories.

btw, this game is for the psx not the ps2. It came out a few years ago, but its still pretty great. you might not be able to find it lying around many video game stores though.
