Anything dies after some years: plants, animals and persons. You don't want to make friends just because they have to die someday? Naaaah, this is paranoid.
I had other pets before and when they died I felt terrible. But times pass (how banal to say that...), you recover and, not to be pathetic or something, the joy a pet can give you is much stronger than the sorrow for the moment of its death.
