Depends what kind of games your children like more. Maybe Nintendo Wii is more suited for younger children, and it's also less expensive. I wouldn't recommend for now to get a Playstation 3, because it still has a few titles of interest, and probably not many for kids of that age. Also, it is more expensive. If you want a Playstation, you could get a Playstation 2. It has still potential, it's cheaper, games too, and has many many titles to offer to a newbie. Forget the Xbox: you have to like it to buy it

I'm not sure it's the best choice for somebody totally new to gaming. Maybe you should go for a Wii if you want a new console. If you want something more established, you can go for a PS2, and you can always buy a newer console later.
