Hey Merc! I totally understand what you're talking about. I used to say that phrase too, "Why should I smile if I have nothing to smile about?". How is it that people don't get that phrase? It's so friggin' easy to comprehend, it's like putting 2+2 together. Damn! I feel so sorry for you though, Merc. Your girlfriend sounded terrific.
But, you also will find another girl who'll like you and kill spiders for you.
And yes, the US population are dumb-asses. Hmmm.....I don't mean to offend anyone here, but....there seems to be a lot of guys who are really into finding a relationship or are depressed because they can't find a girl. This is really off topic but oh well: I used to like this guy who was in college. This was 2 years back and I was 13-14 years old. I was working at my family's workplace, so there's a lot of college students there. Well...he seemed like the perfect guy to me; he loves playing video games and he knew I liked playing video games too. But, here's the deal: I knew he liked me too (but I probably wouldn't have known, if my sister didn't point it out. She has a GREAT eye for these things) but since he's a college student and he wasn't sure if I liked him (not that he could ask me out anyway...that'd be adultery) so it was always, him coming in, him glancing at me, and him leaving with the food. He came in with this girl but they were just friends, 'cause there was no "spark" between them. Well.....one day, I dressed REALLY nice (I dressed in a girl outfit) 'cause I knew that was the day he would come in. He saw me and I think he thought I was cute, so I kept glancing back (I was a retard) but then I never saw him again. Until....one day....he came in with the same girl from before. Afterwards, they left HOLDING HANDS. So....basically, he got freaked out by me glancing at him that day, so he panicked and just grabbed any girl he saw. And you know what? That girl he went out with....ALREADY HAD A BOYFRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He didn't know, because SHE IS A B****! She'll never tell anyone! And not only that....a few months later, she has ANOTHER boyfriend. So...including the guy I liked, her old boyfriend, and her new boyfriend.....she is cheating on ALL of them. See? That's what I mean when I say some girls suck. If he went out with me, we would have some things in common. But nope. He picks a b****. So.......afterwards, I was depressed and I....cried....but, now I'm okay. I'm alright staying single, 'cause I don't mind being alone and no guys would go out with me 'cause I'm too friggin' quiet and very dull. If you're wondering why I'm telling you guys this story of mine, it's because I don't want anyone to think that I'm all optimistic just because I don't know how it feels. I do.
