Gunslinger Girl is great. It's about girls around the age of 10 or so that are saved from life-threatening situations by a secret government agency, who then replace damaged body parts and such with cybernetic parts. Then they train them to be assasins. It's a pretty serious anime and showcases the relationships they have with their partners. When there's action, it's done well. The animation is top notch as well. It can be a bit sad and depressing at times though, but that makes the series even better, in my opinion.
