I haven't watched any of the movies in the best movie category, apart from
Munich and
Good Night, and Good Luck, so I can't have a realistic idea - I'm still waiting to see Ang Lee's movie. I doubt Clooney's or Spielberg's movie will get the award. They're both very controversial, and the Academy rarely let really controversial stuff win anything, apart from movies about Jews in WW II or violence or other minorities that are considered to be "safer"... usually it's just to let people think they're open about these issues while they're not.
Brokeback Mountain could win, but I don't know... an Asian director.... about gay cowboys... Seems to be the favourite in many categories though. And gay cowboys for sure are less controversial than terrorism or censorship. But again, could be they'll end giving the most important awards to something more traditional, like
Capote or
Crash. It's a strange year speaking of nominees... not many typical Hollywood flicks, many movies with some "dangerous" theme.
Anyway I'm going to read the results on Imdb. Watching the whole thing is too boring
